FYI BFGoodrich Commercial T/A Recall

I just received a letter from BF Goodrich informing me of an official recall of "approximately 800,000" tires. Only tires with the following DOT sequences (the unique numbers and letters embossed in each tire) are being recalled. All others are OK. LT235/85 R16 120Q LRE BFGoodrich Commerci...

Re: Towing License?

#1) I know about this RV test and even downloaded the information for it. But I haven't gotten around to actually taking the test yet. It looks pretty easy and the questions are common sense. But for some newbie who just picked up a heavier 5th wheel for the first time, there is stuff in there they ...

Re: Scary Contradiction!

I've got the original Prodigy and it works great with my electric over hydraulic disc brakes. I have the BrakeRite hydraulic system installed in my 2005 rig and it says the Prodigy is OK also.

Re: Another tire question?

I haven't run BFGs on my tow vehicle (I run Michelin on my TV and BFG Commercials on my trailer), but I ran BFG ATs on my Jeep several years ago. I MUCH preferred them to the Goodyear Wrangler ATs that came on the Jeep for three reasons: 1) They lasted twice as long, 2) They cost about half as much,...

Re: Tonneau Covers

I recently got the Extang metal tri-fold. So far I absolutely love it. It's so simple but rigid. But I haven't towed the 5ver with the Extang installed yet -- just our Popup trailer and around town. But I hauled a bunch of lumber that stuck out the back yesterday and it worked great. I'm sure it'll ...

Re: Jalama Beach County Park Central California

Thanks for the heads up. And thanks Torben for the great photos! Wow indeed. I love sites where the back window looks out over views like this. I was wondering about this park. Our rig is considerably shorter than yours, but it still sounds like we'd better do a good detailed survey before we blindl...

Re: boat trailer weight limits

Have you crawled under the hitch and looked for the label? Mine has a label that states the weight limit. I'm not sure, but I suspect it's a law that the weight capacities be listed on the hitch.

Re: Duramax Diesel Warranty (Worthless or not?)

I too think the dealer makes all the difference in the world. I had a SAAB dealer try to charge me for new front seats because mine had come with the wrong ones. When I gave him an incredulous look he offered to just charge me the installation labor! I called SAAB and they laughed, said of course th...

Re: Rear Stabilizer Extended While Driving

I don't think this is the reason for your unauthorized deployment, but it got me to thinking. I'll bet there aren't very many codes in the remotes and receivers for these things -- not like there are for garage door openers or car locks. I remember back when I was working on SuperBowl XXVIII in Atla...

Indian Hill Ranch, Tehachapi, CA

This place isn't for everybody, but it's near the top of my list. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_LWZ9YugMh5Q/TCLWrqcwccI/AAAAAAAAAbI/7cFFR-7_CCI/s400/IMG_9197-900.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_LWZ9YugMh5Q/TCLWtTHL9FI/AAAAAAAAAbM/3McPUXAUbsU/s400/IMG_9203-900.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_LWZ9YugMh5Q/TCLXPR9kmtI/AAAA...

Re: Towing hard

I'm going to answer some of your questions in the order of my experience. 1) The space between the tires. I have this exact same situation. I have a 2005 29WBLX with the same wheels and tires as yours -- and these are the wheels and tires specified on the VIN plate. HOWEVER there are two things work...

Re: Squeeking U-Joint

Personally I'd unhitch and get it replaced as quickly as possible. The last thing you need is a frozen-up U-joint out in the middle of nowhere. And if it freezes up at 60 mph while towing you could have a serious accident as well as tear-up a lot more expensive equipment. Sometimes U-joints make noi...

Re: 5th wheel hitch upgrade

Just curious why you don't want to change the pin box -- it's simpler and cheaper -- and gives you more hitch options.

Re: Comments on BF Goodrich Commercial TA tires

Woody, I have the Smart-Tire system on all four wheels and the six wheels on the truck, the system works very well but you will need to use two antennas. I have one hard wire antenna on the camper and another hard wire antenna on the truck, the truck antenna needs to be connected and disconnected w...
