Re: Hand parking brake for fifth wheels
I believe there are hydraulic disk brakes out there for some RV type trailers. It sems I read somewhere (Trailer Life?) they operate off of an electric pump motor. I have never seen any manufacturer offer them. I heard they were prohibitively expensive. Like about a $5K option! And that was a few ye...

Re: 2 WD vs 4 WD
Other than moving the rig in / out of sites with sand or wet grass / leaves, 2WD should work. I've used my 4WD towing more than enough to justify buying it. I so agree! I have to back up a curb in front of my house to squeeze my trailer between the house and the neighbor's fence. 4WD is the only wa...

Re: Hand parking brake for fifth wheels
You can apply power to the blue wire on your trailer wiring plug and pull the pin on the break switch while parked but the electric breaks magnets will remain on all the time. I do not know the life expectancy of them powered for extended times. Wheel chocks is what all uses after parked and before...

Re: Bedsaver by Blue Ox
Mike, I hope you understand that I was not poking at you in any way. I too have learned from my (and mostly others) mistakes. I think I could have done the same thing if I were doing what you were. I also know that I am not immune to a drop. All of us are at risk with a mechanical failure of the hi...

Re: Bedsaver by Blue Ox
This is why I ALWAYS do a pull test. No matter how sure I am that it is locked. Never assume the hitch is locked. The only way is to do a hard pull test. I thought mine was locked and it came off and landed on the legs, about a 2 inch drop and not hard either. It takes less time to do a test pull t...

Re: Bedsaver by Blue Ox
I looked into getting one of these but decited against it, mainly because of the cost. In their video (on their web site) they showed a fifth wheel coming unhooked and being able to re-hook just by backing up. Makes me real glad I didn't purchase one. I agree with George. It seems that something ma...

Bedsaver by Blue Ox
As some of you may recall about four years ago I had a costly accident when my trailer unhitched from my Pullrite while merging onto the highway from a campground. A few weeks later I purchased a Blue Ox Bedsaver and mounted it to my hitch. This June I put the Bedsaver to a real test (accidentally) ...

Al, That is a good point! I have had to do that when the unit has stayed in storage thru the winter and there is not enough power for the landing gear motor to raise the trailer for me to get under the king pin with the hitch! Again that is what this board is all about CARDINAL OWNERS HELPING EACH ...

I wasn’t trying to start any wars. I was just noting that Ford owners are having the same issues with the EGR as Chevrolet owners. As I stated before… whatever truck makes you happy. :thumbrt:  Sorry if anyone took my comments as anything else. I am not sure what he was referring to. I did...

I still will back my Michelin XPS Ribs, they are all under the weight rating at 80 psi, no problems in over 24000 miles and tread wear is minimal. I will buy these tires again because of the durability and general good performance. I will also likely put them on my truck when replacement is due. No...

I also wonder what hitch do you have. I have an all iron hitch made by Pull-Rite. I love this hitch. My friends have a different brand and complain about the jerky motion. I don't have that problem. From what I understand, the Pullrite's tolerences are tighter, It also has one single wrap-around loc...

My opinion is the best way to figure gas mileage is by hand. True, and I always do. But the gauge gives me an idea at how much fuel is going into those cylinders under various speeds and conditions. Something that cannot be discerned mentally. This helps me to understand my engine dynamics and to d...
