Re: Wheel Loss
We where lucky. Just finished a 800 mile trip, spent the night at home, left for Las Vegas, realised I didn't have my military ID to stay at Nellis AFB, turned around at Primm, NV. Got home, left on the next trip and lost the wheel ONE MILE OUT coming out of the coffee stop making a sharp turn in th...

Re: Wheel Loss
2 things got my attention. 1. Both wheels on the same side had something that wasn't bearing grease. Almost didn't make it to the shop. Other side was fine. 2. Happened on the right side, so limping to the shop at 30 mph on three tires, the water lines to the kitchen got trashed. Made repairs to the...

Re: Wheel Loss
Traveling over the years hauling kids, dogs and the wife I kind of got accustomed to pulling over. :) Every stop is an inspection of the trailer, hitch, breakaway, chains on a conventional trailer, electrical plug, tires, hubs. Everyone should do this every time they pull over. Also at the beginning...

Re: Wheel Loss
Picked the 'Bird up this afternoon. Turns out the right Front outer bearing was about to fail too. The bearings were discolored and the bearing cage was starting to crack, I did take a long look at that. A very long look. The shop owner said the grease on the right side bearings was like "Vasel...

Railroad Grade Crossings
Since I work for a railroad, and see the aftermath or hear reports both at work and in the news, of RR Grade Crossing accidents I'll post this YouTube video of a RR Grade Crossing accident, AS IT HAPPENED, that occurred a couple days ago. The truck driver, whose low boy trailer high centered in the ...

Re: Wheel Loss
Yikes Jeff, how does the spindle look? Rob Spindle and inner bearing appear OK. Still had the bearing retainer, lock nut and cotter key in place. Minor damage to the wheel skirt. Drum might be OK, I should know more shortly about it. Brakes - gone. I picked up all the mangled pieces before I left. ...

Wheel Loss
Just had an outer bearing failure on the right rear, causing the hub and rim to depart. Lucky, no major coach damage, I was making a left turn leaving a gas station, speed less then 5 mph, one mile from home. No roadside assistance available here, so towed the 'Bird 25 miles on three wheels to a sho...

Re: Dually MPG
Just finished a trip to Lost Wages. 11.8 going north on I15 in light traffic, 10.8 headed south with headwinds, espescially strong between Barstow and Mojave. Didn't use the cruise control much headed home on the Interstate, as it was bumper to bumper, and I had quite a few semi's on the 6% upgrades...

Re: Imperial Sand Dunes, Buttercup, CA
It's tons of fun! And like any other racing, it's back and forth about who has the best engine. And all the "Smack Down".
Lots cheaper then running a NHRA rig!

Imperial Sand Dunes, Buttercup, CA
Terry and I just spent 6 days dry camping at the BLM campground at Buttercup, CA. around 15 miles west of Yuma, AZ. on I8. We were at a Large Scale RC Truck and Buggy Rally (HPIBajaForum Duneoctoberfest 2013) and had a blast. People from Canada, Australia, the East Coast, and plenty of folks from th...

It depends on your experiences and comfort factor, when you get down to it about SRW vs DRW. To each their own.

Re: SRW or DRW
Won't tow a big trailer without a dually. Not interested in risking a rear flat going downgrade on a mountain road with a big trailer. Plus the quality of the ride is so much better. All I drive are trucks, I don't have any problems using my dually as a daily driver. I look for spots to pull thru in...

Re: SRW or DRW
For MPG mine is getting 12.5 towing, 15+ light highway and town. Way better then my '05 F250 V10 did, or the work '08 F250 with a 5.4. All with 4X4.Travelers wrote:What Matt said.

Re: 6.0 Diesel Class Action Suit
As long as lawyers can file class action claims, without worrying about repercussion, and get paid for about 1/3 of them, what's to stop them? They're money ahead.
