Re: Banks
Have found that most truck stops charge at least 20 cents/gal more than other near by stations. However, many of them aren't good if the Bird is in tow. Gas Buddy is great and usually very current. Several truck stops don't have RV islands and you have to pay inside which with our credit card voids ...

Re: So much closer to being fulltimers
Mike, you probably can travel with your tanks full, BUT one of the first things you need to do is weigh your bird. Water is heavy (think it is 7#/gal). Would make sure your fresh water tank is nearly empty. When you look at your unit's carrying capacity, it is sort of a wag from the factory and does...

Re: So much closer to being fulltimers
In a month we will have completed 20 years fulltiming. Obviously we like it. In reflection on getting rid of "Stuff", we always are reminded of Janis Joplin's song "Me and Bobby McGee" when she sings, "Freedom is nothing left to loose." Getting rid of "stuff" ...

Re: Full Timers
We are in our 20th year as fulltimers and still love the lifestyle. We sort of looked around at our lives in a little town that we didn't plan to retire in and thought hard about fulltiming. A snowbird client sealed the deal for us when we asked him what was the one thing he regretted about his stat...

Re: SRW or DRW
This info won't apply to many making SRW/DRW decisions, so for what it is worth. One of the reasons for us going with SRW at the time was that we traveled a lot all over Mexico. If you used toll roads or bridges and you had DRW your toll fees were 50 to 100% higher. Also in many of the older cities,...

Re: SRW or DRW
Hitch pin weight is the big factor. I like buying four tires at a time, not six. Have had no problems or concerns with stability with the SRW vice DRW. I have changed a blown rear tire on the SRW where I couldn't with the dually, but the dually has let me limp to get the blown tire changed. When we'...

La Verkin UT 4/22
We were at the Farmer's Market in La Verkin, Ut on April 22 about 2 pm when we saw a northbound Bird turn east on Hwy 9, probably heading to Zion NP. We have been staying In Glendale UT visiting Zion and the region. Tomorrow will move a bit to Panguitch to visit Bryce NP and that area for a week or ...

Re: residency etc
This is our experience based on 18 yearsof fulltiming. We are Escapees(SKPs) and have been since we started. We were extremely please with their mail forwarding service and the fact that TX had no state income tax. Long story short when we bought the Bird, we were going to have to pay a hefty sales ...

No Ground, wet ground = dead
If your shore power connection is not grounded and you step from your rig onto a damp or wet surface, you may get shocked or even killed. Keep a line meter plugged into one of your house curcuits so you can monitor it. Things can change. Electricians can make mistakes and a lot of CG wiring is done ...

Alcohol ruins bathroom sink
Let some rubbing alcohol run in the bathroom sink which is plastic and it destroyed the finish on the sink and turned the plastic white and rough. Don't let alcohol sit in the sink. Flush it immediately.

Re: Banks Exhaust Braking
Our'06 Allison works great w/o an exhaust brake. Have been on 18% grades in Mexico. The reason we have an '06 is because our Banks exhaust brake with the Smart-Lock for the tranny, locked up at the wrong time and tore out the transmission in Mexico. Unfortunately the Mexican who can repair anything,...

Walmart Oil Change
Had Walmart in Sumter SC change the oil. No one else in the shop, so no hurry on the shop folks. Drove back to the CG in the rain. I almost always check the filter to see that it is not leaking, but it was raining, so didn't. Left the next a.m. for Warner-Robbins GA where we would get some work done...

Motor Oil Prices
Got an oil change today and discovered that Walmart has lowered the price of Shell Rotella to$9.00/gal. Delo 400 is $10.50/gal--imagine it will drop soon. It has been a long time in coming down from its quick trip up.
