South on US395 12/14/2012

Driving north on US395 in my trusty F250 work truck today I waved at someone in a white F350 pulling the grade south to Red Mountain with a Cardinal. Steep grade isn't it. :)

Re: Factory Ford 450HP re-flash

Just checked the Powerstroke forum thread. The last info is that its VIN specific. No clue why. Ford Truck Enthusiast and Ford Diesel engine forums don't have any mention of this "flash". When I see something in the mail from Ford about an update, I'll believe it. Jeff http://www.powerstro...

Re: Factory Ford 450HP re-flash

I'm more interested if this flash would increase MPG or lower it at the level most of us use our trucks. With 3:73 gears I have plenty of torque available with the current settings and decent MPG. Dependable transportation with good MPG is my ideal. Can't retire and see America if the truck will be ...

Re: Transmission trouble

From personal experience running up and down I5 in California's Central Valley it's very easy to find yourself running at 70 - 75. The Cruise Control is your friend! And the engine brake works very well going downgrade in the mountains to boot! http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_3387.gif...

Re: Shudder on takeoff

I don't know about a bike, hard to ride one on a ship. But having an operation on your finger to hang onto a coffee cup while asleep...

With 3:73 gears the F350 duallys do get off the line faster then the SRW F350's though. And still get 12 mpg average towing a 5er in my experiance.

Re: Shudder on takeoff

I had the same problem with my '09 F350 "Tow Boss" CC LWB dually. Not as much with the '12.

I don't race off the line, just pull mountain grades at 65. "I CAN'T Drive 55!"

You would still have a "fender" problem. So you would need to bolt on a fender as well.
And rotating 6 tires.

You shouldn't have a problem once you get accustomed to the dually "hips" (DW term) in the back then. You just can't cut the corners as tight.

Re: Traveling in Pennsylvania

The story about the Bronco reminds me of one reason why I carry a Fire Extinguisher. One Fall day in Maine, with the leaves falling, I was driving down the road in my Bronco with the defrost selected when thick grey smoke started coming out the vents. The leaves had packed up in the blower and caugh...

Re: I LUV my 09 F250?

Never had a problem with a turbo, so far. Some have stated on Ford Truck forums that water in fuel can cause turbo seal problems and everyone knows about piezoelectric injector failures, so I'm picky when it comes to fuel stops. I quickly learned to avoid off brand fuel at truck stops with my '09 6....

Re: Traveling in Pennsylvania

I drive a Rail Road company truck, the triangles, a fire extinguisher is required to be ON the vehicle. Plus a HazMat booklet and a bunch of other stuff. For a F250 pickup. It isn't State, but Fed rules for commercial vehicles in Interstate commerce. It made sense to me to protect my personal rig th...

Re: Traveling in Pennsylvania

I have the triangles in the truck, behind the rear seat on the right side, 3 fire extinguishers, 2 in the 'Bird, one in the truck. Just in case, not because of regs.

Re: Transmission trouble

I bit the bullet this week and joined the Ford owners in this Club, I replaced the Ram with a 2012 Ford, F350 DRW 2 wheel drive, 8' bed. I had to go to a DRW to get 3.73 axles as the only ratio the offer with the diesel in the single wheel 2 wheel drive is the 3.31. The truck certainly rode rougher...
