Thats great news, do you have an insight that you are monitoring your exhaust temps and if so which ones are you keeping an eye on? These new trucks are very nice and I agree with your wife it is top notch.

Re: Well I went and done it!
Jeff, as you said "Just a walk in the park". Today we were on some long grades and it amazed me as to how obvious it is that the truck doesn't have to work hard, this thing is amazing! The torque converter hardly comes out of lockup, forget downshifting to a lower gear. Tomorrow will compl...

Re: Well I went and done it!
I traded the 06, I got my first day of pulling the bird and without a doubt the difference in power is like night and day. Since it was it's first day of a long hard career I thought I would take it easy on her keeping the speed between 50 - 60 MPH. The outside temp got to 99* and the fan clutch did...

Re: Well I went and done it!
Thats great info Jeff, do you monitor your exhaust gas temps on yours? I always monitored the egt on the other 2 diesels that I had but, maybe I don't need to be concerned with it on this one with all of the computer safety features these new trucks have. Now if I can just figure out a way to adapt ...

Well I went and done it!
Today while in Kansas we stopped by the local Ford dealer and they had a 2012 King Ranch F350 SRW Golden Bronze with the fifth wheel hitch package and I just could'nt pass on the deal that they offered. I am anxoius to see how it handles the bird, I just upgraded the 06 and was planning on keeping i...

Re: Decided to keep 2006 F350
Sorry to hear about those failed parts Rich, I hope mine doesn't fail as it too is a Ford part. Did the cooler seperate, was it visible whenever you removed it? It looks like they have changed the design from whenever they were new in 2006, my old one had numerous oil ports in the top of the cooler ...

Re: for all you 6.0 ford owners
Thats good real world info. I have been thinking about upgrading my FICM too, how about if you are already running an SCT tow tune from Innovative, will it put more stress on the engine? I have ARP studs and new OEM gaskets, we are headed form Va. to the Tetons next week so I guess it will get a goo...

Rich, have you had a chance to diagnose what caused the failure?

Re: Decided to keep 2006 F350
Most of the information that I gathered was from the Powerstroke forum, if you do a search on the forum for Black onxy head gaskets you will get plenty of information from people that have had some bad experiences. I hope it's not that and I wish you good luck in getting her back on the road.

Re: Decided to keep 2006 F350
That has to be discouraging, I have read alot about people having problems with the Black Onyx and Victor Reinz head gaskets. I hope that's not the case with yours.

Re: Decided to keep 2006 F350
Sorry about your problem, I hope it is something simple and you don't have to go too deep to figure it out. Just brainstorming here, is the fan coming on, did you install a new waterpump during the rebuild? Keep us posted.

Re: Decided to keep 2006 F350
I agree it's really an easy job to remove the cab, it makes getting to everything so easy. Rich, did you change over to the Cat ELC-1 coolant? When I did the restore flush on mine I got quite a bit of the gold coolant gel out of mine, even with the coolant filter that I installed about 40k miles ago....

Re: Decided to keep 2006 F350
Rich, sounds like you definetly have a good one there. Are you going to delete the EGR cooler, I decided to go with the egr cooler that bulletproof diesel makes, it is the tube deign and not the fins like the stock coolers.
