Re: Towing with 3500 6.7 AUTO RAM

My 2 cents - I wondered why the G56 manual wasn't available with the 4:10 rear - only 3:51 or 3:73 - mine has the 3:73 - the manual 6speed has a super low first gear and lower gearing throughout - I found out how much low end grunt this truck had the first time I had to start on a steep hill without...

Re: 2 WD vs 4 WD

There are usually some friendly folks in the campgrounds with 4wd vehicles that will give a hand when necessary...I also carry nylon tow straps in case I'm asked to pull a 2wd vehicle out. Not at all in 09 but twice this year so far - post-thunderstorm both times.

Re: 2 WD vs 4 WD

A 2wd dually truck with a diesel has very poor traction in snow - the extra tire contact area reduces the amount of pressure each tire exerts on the road - not compensated for by the extra tires. You never know when you might need that extra traction. (Like May snow in Cheyenne, Wy!) After having to...

Re: Tranny Choice

dfreak21 Your sig looks like you have a beautiful truck - Mine is stock except for a South Bend clutch and hydraulics kit and a K&N intake assembly (and some nice Michelin tires) My research tells me that the Mercedes G56 six speed manual is the same used on MB medium duty trucks - my brother (2...

Re: Star Performance King Pin Adapter

Yikes! I didn't mean to set off a controversy about tire pressure!! I was referring to my dually truck rear tire pressure... 65lb is max according to the manufacturer - if I'm running in hot weather, I leave a little expansion room - trailer is at 110lb (Goodyear 614s)

Re: Star Performance King Pin Adapter

Bill in SD My truck is no limo when it's unloaded... Part of that is my fault as I'm too lazy to take some of the air out of the rear tires and then fill them up again when I've got the bird on (62lb with trailer, as low as 45lb unloaded.) Re the Star Performance fifth wheel hitch - the thing does a...

I have been the happy owner of a Star Performance fifth wheel hitch for about a year and a half. The SP hitch company owners are quite glad to answer your questions whenever I've called them...

Re: 5th wheel hitch upgrade

I have become a bore on this topic but check out Star Performance hitches - I have one for a 15K trailer, works best with a standard solid pin box - loaded for full time - two years now - these hitches are the last word in towing a heavy trailer - 6 way movement, 20K rating - no air bags, springs, s...

Re: tonneau covers

Extang Trifecta: no snaps, no velcro, drum tight in all conditions - water tight, installs in 5 minutes - two heavy duty spring clips keep it tight - a little pricey though!

Re: tonneau covers

Extang makes some very good stuff - I have the Trifecta soft fold up on my dually - it absolutley does not leak or flap - still gives 3/4 of the truck box vertical space when folded...

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for excellent RV parks on or near Interstate 5 through Oregon and California. We're heading south as far as the Bakersfield area in a few weeks...Also, how about some interesting attractions, scenic spots and/or historic sites etc. Never been through this...
