I read that 300,000 new RVs were delivered to the dealers last year. We make our camping plans before the season begins, and have reservations for our long stays, but I have noticed that if we want to spend an overnight while on the road that we need to get into the RV parks early or they may not have a spot.
Anyone had trouble getting in a RV park while traveling?

What time of the year??? What area of the country??? There are many variables! ChrisWVcampers wrote:I read that 300,000 new RVs were delivered to the dealers last year. Re: Campsites harder to find?
I traveled for over 4 months last year from June 19 to October 24 and moved all over the country 20 states and 10,400 miles and did not have any problems finding a site for the night. The areas where I thought I might have a problem because of location like Niagara Falls NY or Washington DC area I did call ahead but as it turned out neither park wanted me to give credit card to hold a site. Labor Day weekend in Lancaster County PA. I did have to go to my second choice because the campground I wanted was full.
When I left Asheville NC after the rally I was told that the campgrounds in Nashville were full but I called Jellystone RV Park from the visitors center just inside Tennessee and got in no problem. Nashville KOA was full because they were updating the electrical and 1/3 of their park was not available.

Re: Campsites harder to find?
Because of our length when we were double towing (and not being able to back up!) I generally called the day before or that morning and verified they have long pull thrus. And then I made a reservation. With Miss Agnes (Volvo truck) I am figuring we will still do the same. I just like knowing we have a space that will fit us
I, too, have noticed that parks along popular routes or in popular areas fill fast. But those with shorter rvs and 30amp have better luck.

Re: Campsites harder to find?
Just a "general" question. Maybe most of the 300,000 new RVs are replacements for older ones that are no longer being used. I don't see many old RVs at the campgrounds. I guess it could be not that many "Newbies" just a large number of people upgrading. You would think that with 300,000 added that the campgrounds would be getting crowded.snoking wrote:What time of the year??? What area of the country??? There are many variables! Re: Campsites harder to find?
We try to plan our travels on a daily basis when we are not trying to get to a specific location by a set date. We will look at the map each night and plan the next day's route and destination, we make a list of possible campgrounds in that area with phone numbers and addresses, when we are getting ready to leave the next morning my wife calls for reservations starting with our first choice. We've had a couple of times that we had to go down the list a ways but that was usually around a holiday or special event at the desired destination. Keep in mind that I don't like to drive more that 250-300 miles a day and try to arrive at the campground between3 & 5 pm as I do NOT like to set up in the dark.
