Pony Express RV Resort- Salt Lake City

We stopped at Pony Express RV Resort in North Salt Lake City for a night on the way home from the 2021 National Rally in Washington.

Pony Express has sure seen better days! We were here in 2018 for the Cardinal RV Club National Rally. It was amazingly maintained, green lawns, wonderful staff, fabulous ammenities.

Since then Sun RV Resorts bought the park, brought in their own staff from Michigan HQ, and the place has gone downhill. As usual with their other resorts around the country, Sun RV has taken away RV spaces replacing them with permanent camper/cabins. The park is under big time construction as a result. Lawns are all dead, maintenance is deferred or missing. (The region is in a drought with water restrictions), plus workers broke major irrigation lines, probably a year ago. 90% of the spaces are occupied by longterm construction workers and families with a year’s worth of junk under their rigs and in their sites.
This park is still better than many in the SLC area but...
Perhaps in time they may get back on track.

Sun RV Resorts also bought Crownvilla RV Resorts in Bend Oregon. They jacked up the rates, bulldozed some vegetation and slapped in some gravel pads so they could add some more spots and increase revenue. They also charged me an early arrival fee about 3 days after we checked out from our last stay. When I called and complained they refunded it and told me the system automatically charges the fee if the staff checks you in prior to your scheduled time. We were only 15 minutes early and the manager was apologetic and said he thinks it’s a poor corporate policy.

Sun RV has many policies that rub the wrong way. I have stayed in many of their parks before and after they took over. Nearly all takeovers have been rundown quality in my book. They are gobbling up parks like crazy all over the country.

I have to agree they are not a good company to deal with. They had just purchased Pony Express a few weeks before we were there for our 2018 rally and the staff already was seeing changes happening they were not happy about.

As Dana and John stated they own RV Parks in several popular locations and the same situation seems to be happening at all of their locations.

Yes Sun resorts I stay away from they have in 3 in Paso Robles they are very nice. But they like to stick it to you on the price. We stayed at one in Homestead,Florida it was a mobile home park with empty spots and park rvs for 80 bucks a nite. We have seen and read the reviews of the parks they have taken over, it just not worth it. Safe travels!

We paid $20 more per night than 2018, to stay there. Not a fan of Sun RV Resorts. The website made no mention of it being a construction zone.

For those who want to stay in the SLC area we have had great luck staying at Springville/Provo KOA. Off the interstate enough to limit noise and easy pull throughs. Generally we are not KOA fans but this works for us when transiting the SLC area
