ALASKA!!
Has anyone on this Forum had experience towing a Fiver to Alaska?? If so would you be kind enough to share your experiences? Many Thanks---JIm

We went in '06, it was a great trip. Make sure to review posts on the other forum, it was a life saver for us. We got a tremendous amount of info. There will be up to date road construction.
Two must have books are the Milepost (your bible) and "The Traveler's Guide to Alaskan Camping (great info and descriptions of campgrounds). Also, buy the Great Alaskan TourSaver Coupon book. It will save you loads if you plan on tours.
The roads were bad in spots, but not as bad as we had anticipated. We didn't break any windshields or axles. We did see some that did. When driving on the bad roads take it slow. The frost heaves will rattle your teeth. No really major grades or curves, except when going to Valdez, or Haines or Skagway.
Be sure to get there in early-mid June, the weather starts getting bad in July. We cut our trip short, because we were no longer getting any good weather.
Be sure to return on Cassair Hwy so you can visit Hyder, AK to see the bears.
We didn't have reservations anywhere, we called a few days to a week ahead to be sure there was availability. We called about 2 weeks ahead for Denali NP, we wanted to stay within the park. If you stay here, you cannot leave for 3 days (minimum) and there are no hookups. Not good for activities, but great for unlimited bus rides.
Be sure to put the Canadian Rockies (Waterton, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper) on your route if you haven't been. Some of the most beautiful scenery in N America, I have to say it was even better than our Rockies.

We are now in Homer,but not without problems. The roads do take a toll on your rigs,but the trip is well worth it. Our hitch decided to jamed and dropped our 5th wheel 92 miles before Anchorage, Some angles came by towing a 5th wheel and helped us with many blocks of wood and we had the king pin back into the hitch. We drove Very carefully down the road into Palmer. Great RV repair people there. Replaced the hitch . I hope the fishing will be great.
