As I posted in a previous post Judy and I will be making a trip out west in Sep 09. How difficult is it to get a site in West Yellowstone, MT during Sep. I am not sure exact dates I will be there so did not want to make advance reservations. Thanks Tom

I never tried West Yellowstone on short notice, but as a backup plan I have gotten into the Bozeman MT KOA on short notice twice during summer months and it's not too far away and is a nice park.

Our 2010 rally is going to be in Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone....when I was talking to Brenda about dates, she said late August was not there busy time. I wanted to have it in late July, but she said that was their busy season and would not book large groups then. They are closed right now for the winter but you can email, it may take a week or so to get a response and ask them how difficult it is to get in without reservations in Sept. A lot of campgrounds up there shut down in the winter, so you need to ck for that also.

That time of year is not vey busy because school has started or will be starting just about everywhere if you go in early Sept. and if you go mid Sept it will be even slower because the colleges have started by then.

Also since you are planning this far in advance you could most likely get a spot inside the park! I have included two links below, the Yellowstone website and the planning your visit section which includes info on camping!

It is recommended that people driving recreational vehicles over 30' make a reservation since there are a limited number of campsites over 30' available in Yellowstone.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts operates campgrounds at Bridge Bay, Canyon, Fishing Bridge RV Park, Grant Village, and Madison. Same-day reservations can be made by calling: 307-344-7901. Future reservations can be made by calling: 307-344-7311 or 1-866-GEYSERLAND (439-7375), or by writing: Yellowstone National Park Lodges, PO Box 165, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190. Fishing Bridge RV Park is the only campground offering water, sewer, and electrical hookups, and it is for hard-sided vehicles only (no tents or tent-trailers are allowed).

The info above is from the park but on our stays there we observed they have Rv sites in most campgrounds but they have limited facilities at some such as only electric or electric and water.

I hope this information is helpful and I know you will enjoy your visit to Yellowstone! We have enjoyed each of our visits!

We have reservations for Sept 09 in Madison campground for 6 nights. We got them thru Xanterra. very nice people. My bird is too long for most sites, but they will place you in one of the few that can take long rigs if you push them. No hookups at $18.50 per night. Hookups at Fishing Bridge are twice that amount and the sites are very tightly cramped especially for large rigs--but we've stayed there and it's ok.

I emailed Grizzly RV park in west yellowstone awhile ago and they said I could call a few days ahead for reservations if I wanted to stay there. We might do that just before Madison (to charge batteries).

What dates are you thinking about? We're there Starting Sept 11.

Hi Mark, thanks for the info. I have not got a specific date that I will be at Yellowstone because we are going to quite a few places prior to that and may extend our stay in some of them, but it looks like it will definitely be around the time that you are there. I plan to stay at Grizzley and from everything I am hearing it sounds like I should be able to get in without making reservations months in advance. I will keep an eye out for your 350 and trailer and say Hi if our paths cross. Tom
