GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, TN - Elkmont Campground
Elkmont has 220 sites and is open from 13 March until 30 November. Cost is $17-$23. This campground was designed for tents but accepts campers/RVs up to 35’. There’s no electricity, water or dump station. The trees have not been cut back so they will brush against your camper as you drive to your campsite. The roads in the campground have deep pot holes. There are a limited number of campsites that allow you (lucky campers that have them) to run your generator before 10 p.m. Many of the campsites are located on a mountain stream with thick forest which doesn’t allow much sunlight. Why would anyone want to stay at Elkmont? Location, location, location. It’s 7 miles from Gatlinburg, 16 miles from Pigeon Forge, 19 miles from Cades Cove and there’s lots of beautiful scenery. There’s a reason GSMNP is the most visited National Park in the US.
Just outside the park are many private campgrounds that offer full RV facilities.
