Where to stay a night in St. George, Utah?

Post by Big Bird »

We are taking a trip this August from Los Angeles to Yellowstone (Yes) and we were thinking of spending a night in St. George, Utah. From the web, it does not appear there are many places to spend the night. Does anyone have any recommendations in St. George or somewhere else a little closer to Yellowstone we can spend the evening? There is always Vegas.

Just south of Las Vegas I would recommend the Oasis RV Resort, if you go to Mesquite there is a couple of places that is associated the casinos, and south of Salt Lake City in the town of Springville is the East Bay RV Park it's OK for a overnight stay. As you head north just north of Pocatello ID, is Fort Hall indian Casino and they have a RV Park that we have stayed and then on to Yellowstone.
P.S . this is all places that we have stayed at. I did get tires at Costco, Thanks :thumbrt:

I have not stayed at a campground in the St George Utah area but in August I would recommend driving another hour to Cedar City Utah to spend the night as it will be about 20 degreees cooler than St George.

We stay at the Cedar City KOA at the north end of town. Get one of the pull-thru spots behind the office.

We also have stayed here and used it as a base to explore Zion and the area. It's an OK park but not outstanding. We do love the area around St. George.

Have you looked at Snow Canyon State Park? http://www.utah.com/stateparks/snow_canyon.htm

I second the extra time to Cedar City, St George and Mesquite will be very warm (at least 100 degrees or more during the day) in August and Cedar City will be much cooler. Also the Rv Park in Springville is easy access and good for a night off the road. There are Rv parks in the Salt Lake area but not as easy to get to from the highways. If Springville is too soon on the schedule there are RV parks with easy access in the Ogden and Brigham City areas. Pocatello Idaho and Fort Hall are also good options. From the Pocatello/Fort Hall area you are about three hours to West Yellowstone for an easy day of travel.

St. George is a good day's travel from the LA area. All the parks in St. Gerorge are old, small and hard to get in and out of. Continue north of St. George a short distance to exit 16 toward Washington and Hurricane. 4 miles east is Sand Hollow State Park. Full hookups, clean and many pull through spaces. A fun lake is in the park. It is southern Utah, not much grass, but I found it a grat place to stop. AAA book lists primitive sites, but it has nice amenities. The info is out dated in my 2008 book. Look it up under Hurricane, UT. I have stayed at Virgin River AZ State park, hidden behind the rest stop in Az at the east end of the Virgin River gorge on I-15. no hookups, small spaces and hot, hot. Sand hollow is wonderful for what you want, and they take reservations at (435) 680-0715.

We love that area and plan to go back next spring on our way back to Minnesota. Thanks for the info on Snow Canyon State Park I've seen the signs on the way to Zion but we've not stayed there.
