The mountain is acting up again. Hopefully it will calm down.

We're on the road working our way to Yellowstone and haven't been watching the news. What's happening?

Couldn't find anything on the USGS or Mt. St. Helens sites.

I remember when Mt St Helens blew. We were returning to Moffett Field from McCord that afternoon and had a eagle eye view as we flew by to the west. It looked like a slow motion nuclear explosion, my radar showed the top of the eruption somewhere around 68,000 feet, and you couldn't see the mountain at all, the column of ash was that wide at the base. A few months later we circled around the mountain and looked at the devastation. Total, nothing standing out to around 20 miles to the north. :(

I live just an hours drive from the Mountain and haven't heard or seen any activity with it. But, again, sometimes you people back east get information waaaay before we do on the west coast!

On August 14 it was reported, "Warnings this morning for aircraft for ash drifting to the northwest. Hopefully it will calm down and the winds don't change."
