Has anyone ever been to the Longstreet casino in Amargosa Valley, NEVADA . Anita wants to go to the Scotties castle is it better going up 395 then across ca90 or down to Vegas then up 95?? I have never been in this area before any suggestions would be helpful.

Dale,
Heading to Death Valley in California, I recommend taking I15 to Baker, then CA127. Going to Death Valley from Ridgecrest thru Trona on CA178 can be a tough haul. Top off the fuel and water tanks in Baker. And unless you like a "E Ticket Drive", don't cut east on CA190 from 395. Super steep downgrade, switchbacks and if you highside, a 500' drop. The road from Beaty, NV , 374, isn't bad. I haven't tried the other routes. This is a good time to visit Death Valley, temps are cool, but it's a long way to any services, be sure everything is in good shape, including your spare tires. Both of 'em. Drive carefully, narrow roads, dropping off the pavement at speed isn't good. A 5er is no problem though.

Here's the link to the Death Valley Park website http://www.nps.gov/deva/index.htm there's weather and road information which is updated on a regular basis when there are extraordinary conditions (road closures, excessive rain damage, yes rain!, etc).
