Colorado Campground

Post by dc471 »

Looking for a good campground in S.W. portion of Colorado. We prefer full hookups but also want to be somewhat remote. Looking around the Creede and Lake City region but are open to others perhaps Leadville. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Durango- United Campgrounds- 1322 Animas View Dr. (970) 247-3853, Short drive to town, full facilities very convenient.

Leadville- Sugar Loafin' Campground- 303 Hwy 300 Leadville, short walk to town. Adequate, not real fancy, but nice place when we were there.

Mesa Verde- A&A Mesa Verde RV Park Resort- directly across the street from main entrance to Mesa Verde. Nice facilities when I visited in 1997.

Lake City- Castle Lakes RV Park, south of town, on the lakes. Hosts are wonderful. 10 minute trip to town, on road up to Cinnamon Pass, and Castle lakes. Also nice forest service camps with large spaces just up the road from there. Good fishing.

I would return to all of them again. I am not familiar with Creede

We have friends who have stayed at the Antlers Rio Grande and Mountain View in a Class A. Both sites got OK reviews from them. We have stayed at the KOA in Cortez Colorado and enjoyed it. Creede is a great place to visit but it will be still very cold at night (until about the middle of June), If you go to Creede there is a Theater that has plays almost every night. They usually start in Mid June and is well worth it. 4th of July in Creede is a huge celebration.

Good luck and let us know where you stay.
