RV Parks In The Tucson, AZ area

We have been retired 13 years and have RV’ed during the winter months all that time. Up to now we moved around and not stayed in anyone park all that long. Next winter we would like to stay put in one place and enjoy what takes place at the park more than we’ve done in the past and are looking for some ideas. We would like a park, with a pool, club house and nice sites and not next to a railroad track.

Thanks ahead of time for your thoughts.

Tucson, is not loaded with parks like the Phoenix area. We love our park in Gold Canyon, Az, which is in the East Valley of Phoenix, East of Apache Junction.

Here is a link to the Resident's Page

Here is a link to the Resort Page

It is 95 miles to the center of Tucson from our RV Resort.

Thanks Chris,

This looks like a great park. They sure have a large list of things to do, looks like just what we are looking for.

We will be there again next winter Dec-Mar in site 420. We are really happy about the pickleball courts going it.

Here are some additional things that are occurring. They are adding another 300 or so high end MH sites in an annex called Superstitution Views.

Hi all - thought you'd be interested in the Monday AM coffee news from
Julie about CV and the Superstitution Views (SV) expansion:

Brand new washing machines and dryers are ordered for the 2011-12 season.

The south end of the park will be modified this summer as follows:
softball field will be expanded to meet tournament regulations; pet
area will be moved east of the ball field; the tennis courts will be
converted to six pickleball courts (four new tennis courts will be
ready this fall in the new SV addition next door); a concession stand
and bathrooms will be built near the courts and Jeannie and Larry
Motter will be in charge of the facilities; new horseshoe pits will be
built in the SV area; and a picnic area with pergolas, benches and
conversation pits will be landscaped between the pickleball courts and
softball field.

The Garage Pizza restaurant, ATM machine and beauty salon on Hwy. 60
will be bulldozed in the next few weeks to accommodate the park
expansion. The only entrance to the park be the one that we use now,
registration will still be handled where it is, and access to the new
area will be between sites 50 and 51.

The new ballroom will seat 1200 people or 782 tables.

The woodshop will be moved and expanded to the SV area.

New card/poker tables for CV have been ordered.

They're still debating about if and where the exercise equipment and
classes in the existing park might be combined.

Bocce ball courts will be in the SV area and ready for the 2011-12 season.

A second swimming pool will be built and includes a lap pool area.

A larger sewing/quilting space will be in the SV area dedicated only
to fabric activities.

The new managers are still scheduled to arrive June 1 - bets are
already being taken on how long they'll be here!

That's all for now..............

In Benson, 30 miles to the east of Tuscon is Cochise Terrace. Very nice park with a lot of Snowbirds with a loyal following. Inexpensive but Benson doesn't have a lot going for it so you end up going to Sierra Vista or Tuscon frequently.

We have stayed in Tucson for a few weeks several times at the Western Way RV Park off the Old Ajo Highway in Tucson Estates. The park is about 5 miles west of Tucson and very quiet. We have found the golf in Tucson to be more expensive than other areas we have visited but there are some interesting places to visit and spend time. This past year we stayed in Sunrise RV Park in Apache Junction, just west of Chris's park. We found much more to do and see in the greater Phoenix area and golf activities much less expensive than Tucson. We have made reservations to return to Sunrise next year for 3 months and are really looking forward to our next winter away from home.

Jim, I saw this post in the snowbird section of RV.net

"We really like the Tucson area, not real crowded, easy to get around, and outstanding weather. We spent the last two winters at Desert Trails, and plan on being back there again this December. Reasonable price, friendly owners and residents, kind of an organic layout without a lot of regimented rows of RV's and a bit on the funky side. Not one of those snooty RV "resorts"

Pet friendly and lots of activities. We don't have a pet, but we take advantage of other people's for our dog fix.

Usually a pretty eclectic mix of RVs from small to large TTs, medium to large 5th wheels, class Bs and Cs, all the way up to fancy DP class As.

We can walk right out of the park to hiking areas in Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Forest. Very limited road biking opportunities nearby, but there are active groups of road and mountain bikers who take weekly trips.

SW of Tucson, while the preferred yuppy area is NE, so it is a long haul to Trader Joes , but good groceries are within 10 miles or so. Target, WalMart, etc. not to far away and there is supposed to be a Costco in the area by next winter.

Lots of good family style Mexican restaurants in the area as well."

Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like we have choices for next winter. “So many places to see, so little time”. Wait, I’m retired I have all the time in the world, so to speak. B-)

Good info we are hoping to do this in a couple years and looking for different ideas where people go for the winter.

Another quote for the snowbird section of RV.net

"Just beware, Tucson has colder winter weather than the Phoenix area."

By "rocmoc"

I would say that Tucson runs about 5 degree cooler in the winter than the East Valley of Phoenix. Go South of Tucson to Green Valley and the difference is around 10 cooler.

Warmer is good in the winter. Yuma has the warmest winter weather in the SW. My parents snowbirded in Yuma for 12 years. If and when they every stick the big E........ tube in Earth, it is going in at Yuma IMHO!
