Yellowstone or nearby compground

Post by dc471 »

Were planning a trip this summer to Yellowstone. This will be our first trip there and we need information on campgrounds inside the park or close by.

If you are planning on staying inside Yellowstone Fishing Bridge is the only campground that has hookups and sewer. It fills early so as soon as you have dates you should try making your reservations! There are other campgrounds in Yellowstone which allow RVs but no hookups, a few of them allow generators but not all. Check the legend in the Campground section for those that allow them.

Here is the link to the website for Yellowstone

If you are staying outside the Park
West Yellowstone Montana is the West entrance and there are several RV Parks in West Yellowstone Montana. We used Grizzly RV Park two years ago for the National Rally. It is a very nice park but there are others in West Yellowstone as well.
There are at least two RV parks in Gardiner Montana which is the north entrance into the park.
There are several in and around Cody Wyoming from the east entrance and Cody is a interesting place but a considerable distance from the main part of Yellowstone.

You should use Campground review to see which campground are in the area where you plan on staying and see how they are rated. The link to the website is listed below.

Hope this help!

There is a very nice KOA located 10 miles south of Livingston, Montana. It is a half hour drive from the historic north entrance to the park. And the best thing - the proprieter is a Cardinal owner. The campground is right beside the Yellowstone River - great spot - been there several times...

This last summer we stayed at Colter Bay Campground. It is south of the park entrance between Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. It had full hookups, store and other amenities. We had a pleasant stay even though we were not at camp except from dark to daylight. No complaints the people that we dealt with were very courteous and made every effort to help us extend our stay which they did and they were able to let us keep the site we had without having to move.

Colter Bay Village Campground is actually in Grand Tetons National Park and is about 45 miles from Yellowstone. It would be closer than staying in Cody
but a good place to stay if you want to visit both Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks.

Thanks for the replies. Wondering if anyone has stayed at Rustic Wagon in the town of West Yellowstone.

The Cardinal club had their rally at Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone, I have been to this park twice and in my opinion the best in the area. You won't be disappointed if you stay there. Check out their reviews on RVparkreviews.com

We agree with Tom and Judy: Grizzly RV is VERY nice and also close to the Entrance to Yellowstone. Also, shopping in the small town is walkable from the RV park. We also stayed at "Grand Teton Park RV Resort, near the town of Moran, just a few miles East of the South Entrance to Yellowstone.. Kind of a "Mom and Pop" kind of park, but an easy drive to both Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. GREAT view of the Tetons from the park. Quiet, but NO TV or Radio reception, but wifi not too bad.. After all, you are out there to SEE the scenery, not watch TV! Just a BEAUTIFUl area..
