Where to stay this winter

Post by sew2bhappy »

We are just now starting to plan our winter get-away. Anyone have ideas for great places to stay in the Arizona area for the winter? Looking for 3 months or maybe a bit longer. We enjoyed Mission,TX last winter, but would like some new views!
Anyone going to be staying in that area?

Thanks :d

Depends on what you like, last year we stayed at Palm Creek RV Resort in Casa Grande. It’s a big park with all kinds of activities about an hour south of Phoenix. If you like something smaller we like Eagle View near Fountain Hills, just east of Scottsdale.

This year we are thinking of staying in the Green Valley area, but probably will stay a week or two at Eagle View, we like the outdoor view in that area, but not many activities.

We have a couple of members who stayed in Apache Junction one of them being Tom Allen and he stayed at a couple of other places as well. He will be at Branson and can give you information in person about them. :thumbrt:

Snoking has wintered at Gold Canyon AZ for several years and can give you lots of detail about the park he stays in. He gave me info on it but I left it at home.

Thanks for the info so far. I have looked at Snoking's resort and it sounds nice. Also liked the sounds of Eagle View (shuttle to casino? Speaking my language! :ymdevil: )

Anyone else that has favorites let me know... And if you are going to be at Branson maybe we can get together and talk. We probably need to make reservations soon

We spent a month at Tombstone Territories RV in Hauchuca City, AZ (southeast AZ). It is out in the high desert, we liked the park because of the seclusion and quiet, along with great scenery. We will be there in Jan -Feb for 2013. Then we are moving to DeAnza Rv about an hour south of Tucson. It is near Tubac, an artist community. We prefer the country , stayed for a week in Apache Junction, but it was to big for us, lots of traffic and people.

Thanks Tom....that's the info I need. I would prefer a smaller, quieter park myself!

We have stayed in Apache Junction the last two winters and have reservations for this coming season as well. We like the area around Apache Junction because it is not as busy as Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa. There are lots of activities in the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Apache Junction area to keep you busy as much as you want. The parks also have lots of activities in the parks to participate in and you can pick and choose each week what interests you. We have also stayed in the Tucson area and have enjoyed the country down there but have found more to do and enjoy in the Phoenix area. The greater Phoenix area is easy to get around with the loop roads, interstate and major arterials and the light rail. During the winter there is Nascar, PGA and LPGA Golf tournaments, spring Major League Baseball, horse racing, hockey, NBA Basketball, and many college activities at the university. There are over a hundred parks in the greater area and it is best to pick one for your first trip in the general vicinity of your interest i.e. Scottsdale, Mesa, Goodyear, Gold Canyon or Apache Junction and look the parks and communities over to find one for longer term stays in the future that will meet your needs and expectations. Like most of us you will probably make many new friends in the first park you pick and that will be the one that draws you back year after year. Most of the parks start taking reservations in September for the coming winter and if you want to stay in one park for longer than a couple of weeks it would be best to make reservations for longer term stays. If you need further info let me know and I will try and get it to you, Chris Snoking is also a great contact since he has been in the area for several years and has lots of info on the area as well. Last year we stayed only two nights in DeAnza park and liked it. I think that is the one that is an old dog racing track? We also like the smaller parks, might head back this winter. We like the different state parks in Arizona, Buckskin on the western side of the state is a great place.

So....lots of good info! Thinking maybe 1/2 the winter around Phoenix (Casa Grande or Apache Junction) and then rest out further (Hauchuca, Tubac).

NASCAR is generally in Phoenix early March, that is a big draw :d

Guess we need to decide soon so we can get reservations done!!!

We will have our bird set up in Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort in Casa Grande. This will be our 3rd year, although the spouse stays in AZ and I stay in WI and work. But, I do get down there about every 4 to 6 weeks depending on my work schedule.
