Fort Worden SP with the grandkids.

Post by Rob & Cathy »

We got to spend six days last week camping with the kids and grandkids at Fort Worden State Park on the N.E. corner of the Olympic Peninsula.

Fort Worden has two campgrounds, one up on the hill in the trees and this one near the water.

Here I am helping my granddaughter Sara carry with some building material, aka driftwood, for the beach fort.

Sara after a long hike just had to take a break.

I liked this picture Cathy took as we were watching a sunset one evening.

We had a great time with the kids. :d

It's a great park, we were there a few years ago and plan on heading back next summer. I love the town of Port Townsend. Enjoy

Our destination for the next Washington trip - in 4 years. Sis and I decided our next get together should be in NorCal, Southern Oregon in 2014. They want to explore further afield. Our family has always had "Itchy Feet!"

That sunset picture is beautiful!

Thanks Jeff. Since we were in Ocean Shores when we left to meet the kids we decided to take the scenic route through Forks and around Crescent Lake that we haven't done in decades. In fact the last time we were there I don't remember there being any traffic signals.

Forks has really grown up since the movie Twilight was filmed and based there.

And of course Crescent Lake is as beautiful as ever and if you remember the road hugs the south side of the lake for miles.

We enjoyed the trip around Olympic National Park.

Only time I was in Forks, I think they had board sidewalks and hitching posts still! :)

Growing up in Port Angeles, I spent my summers at Lake Crescent. Also drove a fuel tanker on the Peninsula for 3 years in the late 70's. That Texaco in Forks got two to three delivers a week in the summer months 6000-7500 gals a pop.

Rob, if you see Paula or Frank (Work Campers at Fort Warden), tell them hello for me. They winter in Az with us.

Thanks everyone, we had a great time with the grandkids and they sure kept us busy. :d

Don, as a fellow SCUBA diver Crescent Lake brought back some memories from years past. One day on our way back, in the mid '80s, from diving in the Straits Of Juan de Fuca we decide to rinse our gear off with a freshwater dive in the lake. The lake is crystal clear and we made our descent past some old logs and an old car from the '20s. We got down to 140' then started our ascent. When we got to the surface Cathy said that our bubbles never got more than 10 yards from shore and it was also only the second time in 30+ years of diving that I had experienced nitrogen narcosis.
