Re-arranging the furniture

Post by pops91710 »

If any of you have the WBLE as I do, you may know that the convertible sofa/bed poses a small problem when it is extended as a bed.

We had just purchased our 2006 30WBLE and got it home to find that the sofa-bed when opened up actually knocked against the kitchen cabinet return on the opposite side.

Since we are empty nesters, we were not buying our trailer with children in mind (for the first time ever) we kinda dismissed it even though I thought FR had done some poor planning.

Well, it seems our kids wanted to follow us anyway when we went out on a few trips and one or two on occasion slept indoors on that sofa. The problem is we sleep on different time schedules, so when I arose in the early a.m. I could not get out the back door because it was totally blocked by the bed. I had to climb over the end of the bed much to the chagrin of a sleepy daughter.

We had toyed with the idea of flipping the layout on the furniture and finally did it last week. The only downside is the couch is where the dining room set was and so it is now a lot closer to the television. No biggy.

Now, when the sofa is opened to a sleeper, there is ample room to pass by even for me.

We can toss the CRT type TV (27") for a much lighter LCD flat screen and set it on the multi-media desk top which is lower and easier to view from the close end of the sofa to resolve the TV viewing "problem"

Pops...is there any way you could post a pic of how that looks? We have been talking about doing that very same flip!

I will do that for you just as soon as I have my first day off. Maybe as early as Friday or sat.

Luz,

Here are those photographs I promised. Now, you will note I am a very redundant photographer. I take several views of the same thing. I even included the screws I used! Please let me know what you think.

By the way, I almost always upload at full resolution, so if you want a bigger picture or detail, just click on the full size option for each photo. I have fiber optics so it's no problem for me.

Great job! I wonder if I could do the same even though I have the booth instead of the table and chairs?

If there is no such thing as a right and left seat, than You may well do it. The question I would investigate would be is are the booth seats assemblies inter-changeable?

In other words, can the booth seat that is tucked in the corner be unscrewed and be exposed from the back like it's counterpart is now? If it is paneled on the back like the opposite seat is, and is not different from the the opposite side, than you can do it.

If you have storage space beneath the seats with access doors on the (exposed) ends, then you cannot flip the seats. You will simply have to slide them from the one corner to the other just as they are currently sitting. Except that the one seat that now backs up to the sofa, will now be the one tucked into the corner, and the one that's now i the corner will be backed up to the sofa and its backside will be exposed to view.

A friend of mine who ordered his '04 30 WB (which inspired me to buy mine) with a free-standing dinette, accidently got the booth dinette. He was offered free free-standing dinette to correct the factory's error. He took out the booth and installed the free-standing. He made no mention of the booth being attached to the wall or leaving any holes in the wall, or that it wasn't covered on the backside. He said he now uses it as a spare dinette (free-standing) in his home for his nephews and nieces.

All these facts make me think you can do it.

Pops,
Thanks for the very helpful thoughts on the flip-flop of the booth. I had not thought of the back issue. I'll do a bit of investigation after church today. Have a wonderful day. Tim
