30WBLE

Post by snuffy »

Having been a long time Cardinal admirer but never owning one, we are extremely interested in the 30WBLE. We have a 2001 Duramax Ext cab truck with the short bed and would like to know if this combination is workable? Would also like to hear comments on how well FR handles it's warranty work.

Thanks,Wally

Welcome to the club snuffy...we have the same unit your are looking at and love it. Have had a few small fixes covered under warranty and no problems. Good Luck and keep us posted!

We have a Dodge quad cab, short bed and with the superglide hitch have had no problems. We really like the 30wble, the size is perfect for the 2 of us.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB SNUFFY :D
We started out with that same trailer. Unfortunately Hurricane Wilma had other plans. You will find good workmanship in the Cardinals and most dealers are more than willing to work with you if you have any concerns/ problems. If you have any concerns about the trailer weight, your local Chevy dealership should be able to give you all the numbers.

Snuffy, I have a 29WBLE and pull it with a Chevy 2500HD D/A and you don't even know it's back there.

Thanks for the replies. We are trying not to buy one of these. Dee really loves the 37RL with private den and so do I. But if I get something almost 40' it will have a Cummins pushing it. The 30le pretty much fits the bill except for race weekends when we have extra sleepers. I guess we could adjust to that. How much of a discount off MSRP could I expect?

My present trailer is 31' and pulls really well with no sway at all. How much difference does a 5er make?

Bought our 30WBLE a year ago. I didn't want to go longer because we often stay in state and federal parks and it can be tough sometimes getting in some of those places with the longer units. For just the 2 of us the 30WB works very well. We traded in our New Vision which I liked with its rear kitchen and mid-entry door but it was a bit long for some parks. Wife likes mid kitchen and rear door - so we ended up with the 30WB with mid kitchen and rear door. A friend has a 29RKLE which is just a few inches longer than the 30WB and it has the rear kitchen but his 29RK seems more cramped than the 30WB. He said that the kitchen area is cramped when the 2 of them are trying to cook or clean up. The living area is cramped feeling if more than 2 are in it. He also can't open his refrigerator door without opening the slide which may or not be a big deal for some people.
I pull the 30WB with a F-350 crew cab, 7.3L PSD, 4X4, 8 ft bed. It goes down the road and never know the 5er is back there.
As far as warranty work FR has been great with the 2 things we've had. Taking it in next week to get a decal replaced that began to peel and to get the thermostat replaced on the hot water heater. In a year those are the only warranty issues we've had.
As much as I didn't think I'd like the mid kitchen it's grown on me and I'm pretty happy with it.

I see people all the time with bigger rigs and I don't envy them one bit. I love my WBLE. the length is just perfect for all of our long-time favorite camping spots. I revel in the king size bed. It is a delight.

I tow with a V10 Ford Superduty and have no problems. My friend has a RKLE and tows with a 2001 Duramax with no problems.

We looked at a lot of trailers before and after purchasing our WB and we still have found nothing that is as roomy and as light for its size and price. The amount of storage space is awesome. Go bigger and you get heavier quickly.

Am a little confused about the "trying not to buy" one of these....Also, Is your present trailer a tt??

The 37 RL's are awesome and if we had not bought the truck first, I would have gone for that model!!

We have the 30WBLE. We compared the rear kitchen model and the mid kitchen which were both on the lot, side by side. The rear kitchen floor plan was too busy, which was the problem on our trade in. Also we love the rear picture window, on our first trip while I was drinking my first cup of coffee in the AM, a cow elk walked right by the window! If we have the kids/grandkids out, well there's the sofa bed - and a 4 man dome tent.

The length is at the max for USFS/USNP/State campgrounds (to park in the same spot you'll have to forgo using a pin stabaliser, the truck will be in the way in alot of cases). I have screw jacks that I used on my old trailer that I think will work just as well as a pin stabaliser that I'll try on our trip next month.

Wally,
We have a 2005 29WBLE and I couldn't ask for a better 5'r. Bought it used so I can't comment on the warranty. The most important thing is to deal with a reputable dealer. Sounds like your truck should handle it with no problems. Let us know what you decide and happy camping!
