Bed Rail Clearance

Post by RevHam »

I just purchased a new TV - 2007 Chevy 3500 in the new body style.
I was curious if anyone out there with the new style chevy has had any problems with bed rail clearance with their 5er. The new styles sit higher and have deeper beds. I will be towing my 2006 Cardinal 30WB.
I go in the morning to have the hitch installed - head out Wednesday for vacation. Gettin' a little nervous about it.
Thanks in advance!

Bed Rail

When they install the hitch they will adjust the height to clear your bed rails. They may also have to adjust your pinbox.

Don's got it there, most recommend 6 inch minimum, personally I prefer 7 inch as I dented a rear corner on my 05 Dodge (which had 5 1/2 inch) in a very unlevel camp ground in New Mexico.

I assumed so but with us heading out Wednesday, I was gettin' a little skittish.

Thanks to everyone!

Revham,
I see you have a new 2007 Chevy. They recommend that you have 500 miles on it before you start towing with it. It gives it some breakin time before putting weight and towing.

Thanks, Don. I put some mileage on it over the weekend by taking my father-in-law out to eat at Sonny's. The trip took me from SW Ohio to just south of Lexington, KY. It was about a 300 mile round trip. When I pulled into the RV dealership to have the hitch put in this morning, the odometer read 499!

Ok - hitch is in, 5er is on, it looks like clearance is fine. It has 6-7 in clearance. The 5er does appear to have it's nose slightly higher, though.
We will see how things go when my wife and I head out in the morning.
Thanks to everyone!

It sounds like fun times are coming up. Enjoy the new truck and 5er and let us know how things are going.
