31 RKLE Pantry

Post by bayoubengal »

We pretty much have decided to go with the 31 RKLE, mainly because of the additional storage with the pantry. We saw the unit without the pull-out wire baskets in the pantry, which was very roomy. My issue is why the 6" spacer board with smaller doors?

I like to install pull out drawers, but nothing is this small because of the spacer. If we remove this would that be a problem? Also, if you do find drawers to fit you loose a lot of space.

Has anyone modified theirs to be more efficent? We need to place our order soon.

We have the prepullout pantry and have shelves on each level. They however busted out on the maiden voyage, I rebuilt them with better side support and filled the cavity of the shelves with spray foam. THis strengthed the existing shelves and i rebuilt 2 of them out of ply. The 6" face frame in the middle is a mystery to me also except for the fact that there is really no support on the back. Shelves are screwed into the back wall, which is only 2" thick but the screw are in foam only, akin to butter. But if you put in shelves, a half width shelf will fit in the hole on a diagonal and thus you get a full shlef that way. I used biscuits to join the 2 halves.

By the way, we really enjoy the 31RKLE. My wife loves the rear kitchen because it is so roomy and holds more than even she can pack in. We are going to install an air ride hitch of some brand. Not because of breakage, etc, just because WE want a smoother ride in the truck.

Thanks, I have very similar shelves in the Wildcat we currently have. The foam in the center is a good idea. I may try to do that if I can figure out how to get them out.

Don't remove them. Drill a triangle of 3 holes and fit the tube into each hole and let it rip. Filling the central part is all that is required to strengthen the shelf.

I have a 2007 31RKLE. I love mine too, but have some caveats for you. I have the pull out pantry. My maiden voyage had all the shelves fall to the floor of the cabinet. So, I got some commercial Velcro (at the RV Rally) and cut white strips which are nearly invisible to hold the shelves in. Since then, no problem. We really like the pull out pantry especially for all the spices, etc. And I too love the room in the rig--ours is still pretty empty.

Caveat: Mine has been back 3-4 times to the dealer for the slide outs. The big slide has been a real problem (see my previous posts). The FR rep has told them and me finally how to fix it--we'll see. I suggest you run the slides (especially the big one) in and out many times before delivery to make sure it works properly. I can tell you more if you PM me. Mark
