Drained the water from the refrigerator today, I assumed all the water came from the ice maker.

As I removed the out side cover to have access to the rear of the refrigerator I noticed a small T-Handle connected in the drain line that goes under the bird. I have had this cover off more times than I can count and this is the first time I notice this T-Handle

I had water in the line that goes to this T-Handle, and when I opened the drain cap under the bird the water passed thru this small T-handle that is located back of the refrigerator and drains out the drain line for the refrigerator.

I do not know why you would have a T-Handle that you can turn off water that goes to a drain line when you have a drain line caped at the end.

What is the function of this T-Handle ?

Thanks for any info.
