Ice Maker

Going to remove the ice maker from the freezer. Not happy with how long it takes to make ice and it takes up a lot of room in freezer.
Purchased a portable ice maker and we have ice in 11 minutes.

Has anyone removed the ice maker from there bird? If so, how difficult was it? I assume you can plug holes with rubber grommets?

Can this be done without hurting the operation (function) of the refrigerator.

Any suggestions on how or type of problems to look for when I attempt this, please let me know.

I haven't removed the one in the Cardinal but I have removed one from a larger refridgerator I use in my garage. It made no dirrerence in the function of the refrigerator.
