What do you do with your Cardinal in the off season?

Post by pops91710 »

Fortunately I live in a mild climate area (southern California) so I never have had to winterize my trailers.

My Cardinal is my third trailer and each one has always been parked alongside my house. Last year just before taking delivery on my Cardinal, I had a 13 x 55 foot long concrete slab poured to park my new bird on. I wired up a heavy electrical circuit, installed an extra hose bib nearby, and have had a custom-built dump station installed.

Our house is somewhat small but on a large lot. So, keeping the trailer here is easy, and it also serves as 'guest quarters'. With the built in dump station in the slab, the trailer makes excellent quarters for out-of-town guests who find it a pleasure to stay in, especially the grandkids.

Going to grandma's and grandpa's house for Christmas is more exciting to them than Christmas itself.

We are fortunate enuf to camp all year long also, we actually have a weekend planned nex weekend, the nights are perfect for those campfires this time of year. No winterizing. We got really lucky with a parking spot, lol. We live in the country next to my daughter and son in law. My daughter is the one that got me into camping. I tagged along with them for 3 years, then met my DH and he fell in love with it also. We got the Cardinal, then they bought a 36 foot Raptor. We went on halves with son in law to build a double poled carport to park our rigs under. Well the dang thing grew and grew until son in law had a 50x50 metal building w/slab and he put 2, 50 amp power, water supply and two dump stations, tied into sewer system, on one side of the building.

Like you we keep ours along side the house. Unfortunatley right now it has 4 gallons of pink stuff in the water and drain lines. It's tuff walking by it every day knowing it'll be 3 1/2 months before we will be "on the road again"
We do have a couple of trips planned for early spring and will be doing the normal weekend get away stuff starting sometime in late March or early April. :D

No off season when you live in it! :D But this is just the first year, used to just keep ours on a gravel pad next to the driveway. Never did real winterization as it seldom dropped below freezing and then not for long.

We keep ours plugged into the house and heated so we can be ready to go at any time. Our next trip will be during the New Year holiday when we'll be on the Washington coast.

Fortunately we live in a mild climate where we can camp year round. We will be leaving for the central coast on Jan 2nd. We are country folk with lots of room so we keep our bird in a closed 22x40 garage with 50 amp power and heat.

Happy camping all.

Unfortunately, our new Cardinal has been winterized since the end of October. It will spend the winter parked next to my husband's shop, visible from the kitchen window. Since we only got out in it once, I look out at it and yearn for warm weather to return -- the earliest campground with "weekend range" doesn't open again until mid April.

Wow...I can't even imagine not being able to use my rv from Oct to April!! That would be a major bummer!

Our rig sits in the back yard and I blew the lines out when we got back from the beach two weeks ago. Plan to go back out in January and February as the SC coast offers a great climate during the winter months. Just have to keep checking the long range forecast and pick the time we want and roll. Always sites available. I have four gallons of the pink stuff ready for use if it looks like we will be in for a long cold snap. $15.00 is a small investment when it comes to peace of mind.

We keep ours in a storage area. We see two others there as well..not sure if they are in the club or not
We try to use ours at least once a month except for this past summer and fall. We were converting a room above our 3 car garage for my mom to live in. That took us awhile. Now we are back to camping!

Well, you should have a lot of plans, you have some of the most beautiful places to camp I have ever seen out there by you! Especially out there towards Mt Hood where that gorgeous county park is! (South of Troutdale, I think).
