"Shake down" camping trip--! Please help with iss

Post by markj »

Hi folks:

:D Cardinal LE 31RK

She's a beauty! And we love her! We took a 2-night trip to our KM Resort in Blaine, WA last weekend. We found a few problems, which I assumed we would, and I have a question or two.

The long kitchen slide out does not come back flush with the front lower part of the slide slightly out--maybe 1" at the bottom. PDI said it was normal--yeah right. And I do have bubbling along a couple seams on top. Also, the exhaust fan for the stove blows air out the top of the microwave and into the room! I can't feel any air coming out the round small vents on top.

Anyone experience these problems--suggestions? My unit sat on the dealers lot for 8 months (it's an early 2007). Mark

I would think that 1" is a bit much. Both our slides are flush. Have you talked to the service manager or the folks at Cardinal?

I was surprised too that the exhaust fan blows INTO the trailer. We just make sure the Fantastic fan in the kitchen is on when we use the stove top or the smoke alarm will go off.

BTW, I hope that you can join us for the gettogethers in April or August. We would really like to see one of the 31RKs.

Yes, unfortunately ours does this too. We open windows and/or vents depending on if there is a breeze or not.

check the slide out bracing underneath. A couple of ours were loose which did not allow for flush closure. A couple of sheet metal screws fixed it.

Hi Markj, check the outside of the camper, you may have a door on the outside toward the roof line, for the vent. I've seen some that way. Think its to keep cold air from coming in during the winter months. Hope this helps. John

Thanks for the input folks. I'll check it out. Now I notice the Oak Facia on the top inside of the unit slide is separating in the center where the two sections come together. And as I look across toward the front, the trim is not level. This is the same end that doesn't sit flush outside. Maybe part of the problem?

Say, is there an easy way to post a picture on this reply of the area with my digital camera? I'm not too savy on it. I can show you a close up. Again, I really appreciate your help.

And yes, DW works 2 more years, then we're attending as many rallies as we can. We will be attending the RV RALLY in Redmond OR in July. Anyone going there? It's really great! Mark

Hi Mark

Most of us transfer our photos to http://www.photobucket.com (it's free) then you can attach the photo to your message from there.

We'll be at The Rally in July. We decided to stay at the KOA in Madras with full hookups and I suspect a little breathing room. We purchased the passport for full access to events. I'm glad to hear someone else from the club will be there.

We'll see you there.

If you are saying the slide out does not retract flush, than the oak facia has nothing to do with it. If you are adventurous, you can adjust the slide piston (ram) so it will pull in a little tighter by adjusting the outside nuts on the end of the piston (not the cylinder) They leave a little slack in those for hydraulic creep reasons. Loosen the two outside nuts and screw them to narrow the gap. Go a little at a time until it pulls of firmly but not overly so.

If you are timid about this, leave it for the dealer whose job it is to do the warranty work. I had the same problem, and it worked out fine when I adjusted it.

Our exhaust fan also vents INTO the unit. We don't use it.

Check the support arms on your slide. The welds broke on ours.

I believe that the exhaust fans are duck-less charcoal type filtering.
