06 Dodge 3500 Transmission

Post by Don Wilson »

The torque converter on my 06 Dodge went out December 20. When it went out it took out the transmission with it. I took it to the dealer and they wanted $5,500 to rebuild it so I took it to the Transmission shop I use and they rebuilt it with a heavy duty torque converter for $3,900. It took a little longer to get it rebuilt because of the holiday.
They told me I had beat the odds as that transmission has a history of going out at about 82,000 miles and it has 182,000 on it when it went out.

Mine went out at the Branson Mo. rally. Instead of fixing it I just bought a new truck in Branson.

Don,

The cost of these new trucks are like buying a new house when we were younger, keep it running until you can’t use it anymore

One of my buddies didn't want me to take off for Alaska with 225,000 miles on my transmission. He R&Red it for me and had one of his friends go through it and upgrade all the internals. It worked fine, at that time, but when it was inspected, the 2-3 clutch was on its last legs. I'm now at 254,000 and it is working great. The whole job with better parts and a better converter and all five solenoids, cost me $1200 including fluid and all the extras that show up. My buddy didn't charge me any labor and the transmission rebuild labor was $250. The rest was for parts. I owe my buddy a great debt! We will see how long the transmission lasts. I plan to run the old truck until it collapses out from under me. Roy

Roy I am hoping to get another 180,000 miles with this rebuilt transmission so at approximately 20,000 mpy (miles per year) that should get me to about 2026. I just hope I hold up that long. :d

We both chose the White Gold color Roy. We selected it after ordering the new trailer, so we had a scheme in mind. Cindy is the "designer" in our family, and has a better eye for colors. She had not actually seen it on a vehicle until after I placed the order, but she likes our choice.
