New truck is quiet

Post by CaptainSkidmark »

This new Dodge Mega-cab(09) is so quiet compared to my trade in truck(05) that I am compelled to ask if the other brands are just as quiet? I'm just curious since I didn't test drive any of the other brands. :thumbrt:

Mine is very quite. In 2006 Dodge was reported to have the noisiest out of the three so I didn’t even look at one. Too bad cause I liked the “Big Truck” look of the Dodge and the idea of the Cummins engine. :thumbrt: :thumbrt:

Even at an idle, I can tell the difference in the noise level compared to the 2005. Now I'm getting wishy-washy because after driving the 05'er for four years, I kinda miss the old rumble. =)) Is it April Fools time again? heheheheh Ok it's not Cadilac quiet, but I did trie starting again when it was already running. Yep call me stupid.

I had an 02 Cummins. Compared to that the 2006 is very quiet. The 6.7 is as quiet as a gas engine. It is remarkable. To be honest though, I kinda liked the noise of my 02. Sort of like a washing machine full of hubcaps at idle.

Catalytic converters and DPFs have gone a long way in preventing the foul odors of older diesels. :thumbrt:

The GM Duramax engines have always been very quiet -- particularly when not working hard. The Dodge/Cummins always used to clatter like crazy. The joke was that they sounded like "real" diesel engines.

But sometime within the past year Cummins did something and suddenly their new engine is as quiet as, or probably even quieter than the GM Duramax. I was filling up when one snuk up on me. I figured it was a an Audi or VW. But no, it was a big hulking Dodge -- in stealth mode.

I agree the new deisels are quieter and less stinky but when filling up do not spill a drop on yourself as the stink stays with you all day. No arguement they out pull anything but if I can get away from needing one I definitely would.
Drive them both.

my v-10 was very very quiet, till just before the penn rally when I replaced the rattling factory muffler with a Magnaflow stainless one. Now ever since the rally and the 5k runs up grades the truck now sounds like a muscle car  No rattle, Just RUMBLE 8)

The biggest improvement in noise levels I've noticed has been in road noise. I drive a '08 Extended Cab F250 for work, and have The Beast. Both are a great improvement over the '05 in that regard. The spring changes have noticeably improved the ride also. All of these are FX4, except the '08 which is a XL with 4x4 and the 5.4. When I stand on the throttle it sounds like a Police Special Crown Vic! I can always get a kids attention with it. :)
