airbags and airline antifreeze
has anyone put airline antifreeze in there airbags or lines for winter use? and what about the compressor? i am a little concerned about freezing up and busting something, and the other side of it will the antifreeze cause any damage to the bags or compressor?

We have air bags on our truck, but never heard of doing that before. Are we missing something?

No need.....................if any water happened to be in "The System", it would be displaced/dispersed so no worry . They use air bags on semis, trailers all over the place, alaska, and colder......you have nothing to worrry about in "Da-UP"....cept the trolls ...............(For those who do not know, Trolls ......"Live Bene'th(Under) the bridge" )

Re: airbags and airline antifreeze
I think you bring up a good point Rick. At work we had air brakes on our bucket trucks and we always had to use alcohol in the system when it got real cold. I think in your air bags there wouldn't be enough water in them to be concerned with. Similar to your the water tank and hot water heater in your rv just draining them is enough because of lots of room for the frozen water to expand. The little air lines could also be an issue. Can you see in them to see if they are plugged with water?
My compressor has a filter on the intake that helps take some of the moisture out of the air. Another thing I do religiously is drain the tanks every time I use it. This also goes along way to keep moisture out of the system.

Re: airbags and airline antifreeze
well made it through the winter in the u.p but did freeze my air compressor but thank god i just blew a fuze rather than doing any damage to my compressor.
i rewired my compressor to the #1 switch on the upfitter switch bank so i can have some control of the power and watch for the cold weather, but i still have to figure out how to keep the compressor from freezing up.
i have it mounted in the truck box thought it would save it from the salt and that worked out ok but still have to figure out how to keep the compressor for when i may need it during the cold spell.
just thought i would update you on the freezing problem.

Rick, You have a beautiful rig. All I can say, is I don't ever want to be that bloomin' cold, Ever! I think my blood would freeze before my rolling stock does. Gotta Love So Cal for weather. I've been to UP in the Fall, and it is spectacular! What a country we get to live in.

Re: airbags and airline antifreeze
I installed air bags on my F350 however, I don't have a compressor hooked to them. I just put the air into each bag from the shrader valves that I mounted in the top license plate holes. If you are concerned about moisture being in the lines/bags during cold weather you could put nitrogen in the bags via the shrader valves.

Re: airbags and airline antifreeze
In weather that cold are you towing? If not then I would just pull the fuse and ride on the regular springs. Put the fuse in a couple times each winter (when it is above freezing) just to exercise the compressor.

Re: airbags and airline antifreeze
Another solution to the freezing would be to join Mike in Kerrville during the cold months.
Was it moisture in the pump that locked it up or just the cold in general on a small HP electric load?
