First Run with new Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins

Post by Jim&Peggy »

I must say that after making a trip of 155 miles and averaging 16.7 MPG(on the electronic odometer) that I am impressed. I pulled a long 8% grade at 70MPH in 6th gear and had throttle left. I have a 6 speed manual transmission. After my Ford gas 460 cuin.discplacement engine and 11 to 12 MPG without a trailer, this one really looks good. This was a hilly, high altitude(3 to 7000 ft.) trip with about 50 miles on the interstate. WE are both pleased!!! Regards Jim

Sounds good Jim. What trailer were you pull? And how many total miles do you have on your new truck?

Hi Rob--
WE did not pull any trailer---we were still under the tow threshold at less than 500 miles. We now have 505 miles on the truck but have only filled up once. In late May we will be heading out on a 3000 mile plus trip. Then we'll find out what the truth is. Regards Jim

Wow, 3000 mile trip. That will indeed be a good test. Where will you be heading?

Hi! Rob
WE will be going from Arizona to So. California to Vancouver,WA to Idaho to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons back to Vancouver( to return Grandson to his home) then south to Bishop,Ca. to Prescott,AZ. Lots of desert and mountain driving.
We willl probably be gone about six weeks. No hurry.though. Regards----Jim

Hi Jim

Now that's my kind of trip! My wife an I hope to make those kind of trips one of these days. Are you going to be staying with your family while in the Vancouver/Portland area or a park in your Cardinal?

Rob---- We stay at the Vancouver RV Park. There are only 2 places to stay in Vancouver the other is the Van Mall RV Park, but it is smaller and has very tight spaces. We used to stay there when we had a 24 ft 5er. That extra 6 ft. made a big difference. We stay there (Vancouver RV Park) and visit sons family. We have one Grandson graduating from H.S. in June and have a baby shower to go to in SO. California for an expected August Grand daughter. So, busy ,busy!!!----Regards---Jim

I drove a new 6.7 yesterday. I loved the truck but have always been afraid of the first year production of anything. I was offered $10,000 off a $44,000 sticker but could not pull the trigger. The new 6speed automatic seems a better match for a diesel.
Still kicking it around in my head, or it is "kinking my head".
