Had a rattle in the engine

Post by Diesel Dave 04 »

I had a rattle in my engine when i was rolling along if i was hard on the go pedal it was fine or if i was coasting it was fine but rolling along it had a rattle I found it was advancing the injector timing to much, so I looked into what sensor would do this and not set a code.
It was the MAP sensor or what some call a boost sensor. I replaced it and I now have a quiet engine It was over timimg it all along.

Im thinking maybe my MPG empty will get better. I guess we will see.

That will do it the 04.5 have a wierd timing anyway. Sometimes you can clean the map sensor and all will be fine. I had a rattle in mine this past weekend but it turned out to be an injector acting up. Put in some Howes and a little Bio and all is well again.

what do you think Mike. Do you think it will help my MPG empty?
I know towing it is the same 9.7-11.8 but I feel that is normal for the trailer im pulling. But 10.0 around town empty seems bad Im hopeing that comes up a bit.

I took are 05 durango in cause it had a recal on the wiper motor and it was only getting 8-10 mpg they said it was fine nothing wrong with it.
the wife went down the road and traded it in.
she is driving a murano and getting 19.5 in town and 22.4 highway..
we just couldnt aford to feed that durango any more.

Hard to say around town stop and go with mine I get 17. Your towing mileage seems about right I get anywhere between 9-13 but average 11.0 most of the time. I seems to me there was a tsb way back when to help the mileage problem. Check out TDR or some of the other truck sites to see.

Yep I did that also. I sent it in had the reflash done Made no differance.
I think the dually a little bigger and heaver (It was 7640 last time on the scale) and the added road friction of the dual tires will cause a drop in MPG but it should get 14-15 i would think when im not towing not 10-11.

Just to let you know The new Map sensor Made no differants in the MPG still only getting 10.3 MPG

I have a superchip Flashpaq in it now Im going to run to myrtle beach with that and check MPG
Then Im going to remove that and install a Smarty programer for the ride home and see what does better on fuel.
