Well I was a ford owner for years, I wanted to try the dodge Cummins, I did.
The truck was nice I love the cummins But the tranny In the dodge is just not cutting it, And my kids are tall so the back seat was also to small.

I didnt have any cash to spend I didnt want a payment so I made a deal and swaped truck for truck the dodge 04 4x4 Quad cab dually for a 04 Ford 4x4 cc Dually. It has more miles But It is a lariot loaded where my dodge was only SLT.

So Im back to FORD Now I guess it is time to lern all i can about the 6.0L power stroke, I have mastered the 7.3

Welcome back to the best selling, toughest truck on the market. Just ask Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs.

Two words: EGR Valve.

That is the single biggest problem with the design of the 6.0 is the recirculated 1500 degree exhaust pumped right into the intake all day long.

No dealer can legally bypass the EGR system but most will recommend the owner doing it themselves. It will increase longevity of the motor.

These are just a couple links to get you started. We've had almost every sensor changed out on the engine along with the recalls like the engine wiring harness. Oh ya, it's our second turbo too. We bought our 2004 Excursion used with 4002 miles on it. Can you call that used?

Funny, that's the discussion on the Chevrolet site too

I'd be willing to bet Dodge has the same topic.

Hey all, remember quite some time ago a truce was formed and it was decided that this site was no place for truck wars, only good and bad information being shared about all brands. If you want to knock someones brand of vehicle take it somewhere else!!

Yep no truck wars here, but your right all three are having problems with the new EPA rules. I think I will wait a year or two before buying my next truck.

Who was Knocking ? I didnt see any truck war statments. The Post Is not ment to be a truck war post, I was just stating I went back to ford, I really liked the Dodge But The tranny just didnt put the power down Till the converter locked at 48-50 mph Maybe I just had a tranny issue with the one I had. who Knows and It dont mater what new Diesel engine you have they will all have EGR issues.
Sorry If I started a bad post. :?

I noticed the same lack of power. I added the Bully Dog and a Pac Brake and all my issues seemed to clear up. It also seems to help the mileage some which seems not right, but is as advertised. I have the 48 tranny which I think is tougher than the old 47. Hope so anyway. But Dodge needs to compete with the "Allisons" of the world.

gearing

Post by Diesel Dave 04 »

I really think part of my issue was trying to pull a 15,500 + pound unit with 3:73 gears and a auto trans, I feel (NOW) any trailer over 12,500 -13,000 you should have 4:10 gears Unless it is a 6 speed then you can use 3:73 and be ok. Just my .02 cents.

I wasn’t trying to start any wars. I was just noting that Ford owners are having the same issues with the EGR as Chevrolet owners. As I stated before… whatever truck makes you happy. :thumbrt:

I am not sure what he was referring to. I did not see anything downing another man's ride.

Personally I learn a lot by comparisons and open discussions. Just as I did on this thread. I am currently searching for a diesel tow rig and want to know all I can before taking the plunge. That is, if I can screw up the courage to pay for one!!

What do you all think of the PS 7.3 Ford. I hope to find a clean 2003 model with one in it.

Mike, our Diesel Ford is a 2003 and has the 7.3 in it and hubby loves it! He had been searching for a new truck but was not ready to order, but in late 2002 he learned that they were not going to be making that 7.3 anymore, so he ordered it. Very glad he did. Pulls our bird with no prob. Any more questions, just holler and I can have him give you more info. (I know NOTHING about this stuff! I can drive it however, but have not driven pulling the bird! -- too chicken!) Donna
