Fuel Additive

Post by Me&Margie »

We are in the planning stages of our first long trip with the Bird. My question to the other diesel drivers out there is, how often you put additive in your fuel when you are on the road. My normal habit is to add some at every fill-up, but haven't been on the road for an extended period yet.
Thanks.......................Marv

I use Deisel Kleen + Cetane Boost in every tank. I understand that additive sold by Ford is also pretty good. Had problems with the EGR valve coking up until I started using it. No problems since and I have noticed a small increase in MPG, quicker starting , and seems to run quieter.

I use the Diesel Kleen as well and like it. Get it at WalMart.

Call me cheap but I have never added anything on any of my trucks and never had a problem. I always buy from high volumn sellers so I know its fresh and change filter every 10000 miles.

O.K., guys, you got me convinced. Additive at every fill-up. Now all I've got to remember is, I can't pump it myself when we are in Oregon!!??

Yep, I'm surprised you got away with pumping your own.

The guy ahead of me did the same, as well as the guy beside me. Guess they forgot to tell us foreigners, never saw any other people to pump it for us!

Not all stations allow you to do it. This is an old topic but in the Portland area now it a 10% bio blend so you do not need anything else.

You guys got French Fry powered trucks in Portland area?

Watch what you use as a additive. Some help and some do not. I use WallyWorld 2 cycle oil in my old 2001.5, it is not good for the post 2007.5 engines.
