Got Gauges

Post by yogi154 »

Well I finally got Gauges in my Old Truck. I was going to ask the Questions in Branson but I wasn't sure what the gauges should read.and I wanted to get home before someone told me it's the turbo
My Trans was 150 to 165 normal but 180 on a Missiouri Mountain. Ya I know you call'n hills . The Priro Temp was 700 to 1,000 Once up to 1,100
Boost psi was 0 to 7 some times 10 then after the Mountain down to nothing . The truck has a 5 inch exhaust and no chip Yet
Thanks Wayne

That sounds about right Wayne. It's nice to have a little more information on how the engine and transmission are behaving.

Im not a Ford man but 10 lbs of boost seems a little low going over your hills.

Sorry, I can't help you with that Wayne. It's been a few years since I've owned a diesel. But I'm sure others will share their experiences soon.

Never had a Ford Wayne, same as the others said your other numbers look good, but boost seems low to me. When you hit the really high mountains the trans will get hotter, best to limit it to about 200 to 210 max then pull off and idle it in neutral to cool it off. Most people back off throttle at 1100 or 1200 EGT, but safe to go to 1300 for short periods. Those temps are pre-turbo, if your sensor is after the turbo lower those about 250 degrees each.

Where did you mount the boost line? Intake plenum? Might check the line for a kink or break. The 1/8 line used can get kinked, cracked or even be loose at the Ferrel.

Thanks for the replys Mike,Bruce & Rob come the weekend I'll check the line. I was wondering because with the bird on the back side on flat ground the boost was about zero or a wiggle. I'll hit the PSD web site them boys will know , but they get a little Crazy with modifications. I just want a little more power like 500 horse power :D . Did I get your attention OK just a little boost in power.
Thanks Wayne

The boost wide open Throttle with a heavy load should be 16-18 stock 7.3 power stroke, The trans temp is great, The EXh. temp, where is the sensor?
if it is before the turbo that is great. if it is in the down pipe after the turbo then that is on the high side.
Ps: Boost goes by Load no load no boost.
