Injectors

Post by Torben »

Our 2003 Chevy Duramax-Allison after 113,000 trouble free miles is going in for new injectors- I think that is pretty good. I am interested in hearing from others members how many miles before they had to change the injectors.

WOW! I only have 30k on mine. Looks like I have about another 70K to go.
Heard that they should be changed at 100k unless there is a problem.

Hi Torben, are you replacing the injectors to fix a problem? Does your service manual call for replacing the injectors after certain mileage as part of regular scheduled maintenance?

No Rob - one injector went bad- What happened is I started to smell diesel fumes and see smoke out of the of the tail pipe, so I took it in to our local Chevy dealer and they told me a injector had gone bad, so they replaced all 8 injectors. On the 2003 Chevy the injectors are under warranty intil 200,000 miles or 7 years. but this is the first problem that I have had.

That great, if they'll replace all eight under warranty I say go for it.

Yes in deed if they are doing all 8 for you that is great. Injectors do fail I know in my year of Dodge they had some problems with injectors.

Just an FYI. The injector issue you're refering to effects 2001 through early 2004 (LB7 "1" VIN) Duramax diesels. The injector "issue" and 7/200,000 special policy coverage does not apply to mid 2004 and newer Duramax's (LLY, LBZ or LMM). The issue relates to high fuel return flow due mostly to ball seat errosion. I see many (the majority) of Duramax's running well into the upper 100,00 to mid 200,000 without injector issues. If you do have an LB7 with an injector failure in the 7/200 period the spedial policy calls for replacement of all 8 injectors even if only one has failed. There is NO NEED for maintenance injector replacements. I hope this helps shed a little light on the Duramax injector issues.
