2800 miles of towing on one trip

Post by Jim&Peggy »

On 10/10/'08 we completed a trip of 2779.7 miles that was all towing. We used 253.218 gallons of diesel fuel that cost us an average of $3.987per gallon. We averaged 10.977 MPG. traveling at 60 MPH using the cruise control. The total trip was 3804.6 miles meaning we had 1024.9 non-towing miles. for which I have not calculated the MPG. We have made this same trip with our earlier Ford F250 gasser and had a 40.6% increase in MPG going from gas to diesel. Bear in mind that this trip is mountainous with altitudes from 500 Ft. to 8041 ft (Deadman Summit. on US 395 in the Sierras) at road level. I had hoped for better mileage but I guess that is not to be. We now have 18,016 miles on the truck. Over all we are satisfied with the truck. We had NO problems with the Bird. Regards----JIm

With 18K the engine should be starting to get broken in. Has it had all the lastest Dodge reflashes done? I know that originally mileage was not that good with the 6.7, but I think they improved it with some reflashes. Have you looked at The Turbo Diesel Register? http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/
