Why hasn't the cost of motor oil fallen?

Post by bilmorvn »

Haven't shopped everywhere, but don't see the price of motor oil falling with the cost of oil and fuel. Delo 400 and Rotella still running about $12/ quart. Anyone got a line on cheaper motor oil?

I get Delo 400 at Walmart for $11.97 per gallon. Did you mean per quart or gallon in SD? $12 per gallon is steep for sure.

Yes, I meant per gal! Did see a price break at one Sam's Club, but at no others. Think rotella was $35.xx for three gallons, but Delo was down to $56.00 for six gallons. Maybe the down trend with follow. They had no problem going up.

To effectively gouge the consumer the price has to remain high. Greed sucks.

The supply of motor oil is much slower in the supply line. Price "should" lag a couple months. BUT, I would bet that it tracks much closer going up than down. Chris

I am sure glad that I bought Chrysler's prepaid oil change package for my 01 diesel paid $250 for 10 oil changes which are still good thru 2010 and I have 4 left.

They still sell a similar plan for any diesel but not sure about current cost. Mine was purchased 3 years ago.

Along the line of "why isn't it cheaper?" Around here, propane is still $2.99 a gallon. Which is better then the $3.60 + a few weeks ago. But, Chevron has Reg gas at $1.91! Off brand gas is 10 cents cheaper. I never thought I'd see those prices again!

Our local Shell and Chevron, which is what I use, are at $1.80 and Arco at $1.65.

If you're still "shopping" for a TV for your new 5er..... in my opinion you can't go wrong with a Diesel...ton's of torque. Just my opinion. We have a Chev. Duramax and are very happy with it.

Ditto with rosey's opinion. When I moved to a diesel the fuel cost more but the MPG went up making it a wash. It looks like I have basically the same vehicle except mine is the single rear wheel.
