New F350

Post by Chief409 »

This is related to the post about the hitch, but for us it is significant enough to warrant a new post.

During a brief visit to the Credit Union I signed all the papers, and we now have a "Big White Beast"! A F350 Crew Cab FX4 Tow Boss, 8' bed, power captain chairs, 6.4 diesel, that has all the bells and whistles. Including a back up camera, back up warning sensor and Sirius Satellite Radio. Plus the spray in bed liner and the neeto tailgate with the step and handle. I WON'T be unloading large equipment by myself with that. :D

This is our Anniversary Weekend, so even though we couldn't make the SW Rally, we still hooked up the 'Bird and went camping, just closer to home. One last trip up and over the hill for the old faithful F250.

We're leaving here Monday, I made an appointment with a shop to remove the hitch from the F250 Tuesday morning and plan to swap trucks after that. I'll post pictures of the "Big White Beast" when I have some. =p~

Hey Jeff,

Congrats on the new truck! It sounds great and I know you will enjoy the way it will tow the bird!

You'll like the tailgate. I didn't think I needed to spring for it, but it was already on the truck I found. I call it my "old man's tailgate". Since you have a 4X4 you'll especially like it. I have carefully drug all kinds of equipment over the handle and plastic cover, It is tougher than I expected. Hint, Keep that tailgate latch locked all the time. Hate for it to be stolen. They are inviting and expensive.

Lets see if I remember how to post some pictures.

I had the Reese hitch removed from the F250 and it'll be installed before the end of the month in the Beast. I have to get some things done around the house and my hitch installer has other plans, like a vacation for the next two weeks. B-)

nice upgrade, not that the original was half bad. I see you have the 450 style front axle which turns on a dime!

Thanks for all the comments! Now to finish getting it set up and making the first trip. And adding in all the gadgets, getting a toolbox/fuel tank, but those things can be done over time. One thing I have noticed. The ratio of boost to engine RPM at a given speed is directly reflected in MPG, Reminds me of flying. With a full tank from the dealer, I plan on seeing how this works out. I gotta get 500 miles on it by the first trip you know :thumbrt:

Nice truck Jeff,

You should have no problems traveling with the Beast, it takes time to find that Sweet Pulling Spot when you get a new TV.

Will do. I've been known to spend "some" time there. Running 200 plus miles a day gets you to a 5,000 mile oil/filter change FAST!

Off thread, kinda.

Having 4X4 and good mud/snows on all four is great. I was inspecting a buried cable run along the tracks yesterday and ended up going through loose sand axle deep in 4Hi for around 200 yards or so. The F250 work truck just chugged through, giving it any gas would of buried it NOW, and visions of getting on the radio and calling the train dispatcher to "dispatch" help if I bogged out DID occur to me! Looking for the cable distracted me until I was in too far to back out. Forgot to "Drive First, Anything Else Last". :o)
