I hesitated buying a diesel in 2005 because I remember the tribulations of going from leaded to unleaded gas, and knew that Ultra Low Sulfur fuel was coming. And then I waited a year after ULSF came out, checking on reliability of the new diesels. I almost missed this about the NEW requirements.

And Smog Inspection Stations in CA are NOT your friend! I had to replace the carburetor on my Bronco, so I got one from NAPA. Right model, wrong part number, it wasn't on the list for the Bronco. FAILED Visual Inspection - and I'm out $800 for another carb, if I can find one.
From the link above:

"What’s this DEF? Ah, nothing more than a mixture of about two-thirds deionized water, and two-thirds purified urea."

New math? Magic? "My deionized watery urea is over running the container" I hate that when it happens! Should have dumped the holding tanks sooner!
