Good point on road noise! My buddies 08 gasser is like a lincoln inside in reguards to road noise. My 99 was always quiet inside, since it is 2wd it has coils in front and since I put transforce ht's on it has almost mo road noise accept a little turbulance from the Visor.

After buying this truck ( I went back for the Cummings motor), I noticing the noise reduction in this newer model. I wish the desiel mags. would do a in cab noise survey with the big three companies. I never really thought of this until the recent truck I purchased, which now leads me to thinking,who has the quietest desiel, being it be a 3/4 to one ton truck out there on the market. Since I have notice the noise reduction in the new truck, it would be a matching concern to me as the Cumming motor was in my rebuy decising. :-B

The diesel truck enthusiast mags are trying to be the "Hot Rod" mag. Go to the diesel forums on the Web, half to three quarters of the posts come from teens who post they will remove all the smog stuff from their "BRAND NEW" under warranty F, C, D or whatever diesel truck. And bragging about 24 MPG. So no hope there.

Trailer Life, Woodhalls, or forums like this are probably the best source of information for a realistic evaluation of a tow vehicle.

I agree to that and since i run a diesel site well (not much since I found you guys) you hear all sorts of mpg figs. Does not make since to me to lie, it is what it is and if you bought something to tow with and expect the mileage of a hybrid then your in trouble.

He who has a need for 8 lugs or more per wheel has not an argument for economy 8) When I want to get great mileage I ride my motorcycle, but I cannot tow my home so I will trade a few bucks for 59ft and 24k lbs of pure pleasure :thumbrt:

After towing with gassers for all my life, I'm happy with the MPG I'm getting now. From my house to Mammoth Lake with the 'Bird used to be a 2 tank (38 gal) trip one way. Now it's a 2 tank (38 gal) ROUND trip, appx 500 miles. I usually fill before it gets to the 1/4 tank mark, 20 to 26 gallons as a rule. And that is with the airconditioning on, cruise control for most of the trip and Tow/Haul mode doing around 60.

For me, that is a Big Boost in Economy! :thumbrt:

I always wondered why an 18 wheeler at 100k lbs will get the same mileage as a pickup and 5er towing 15k lbs???? Someday I will be able to have an opinion on diesel while towing the 5er but for now I have only used diesel to plow and tow open trailers around town. Till then I will be a member of the minority gasser club 8) 8-}

Chief, are you saying you are getting twice the mileage with the new Diesel??? I get 8ish in the gasser which means you would be getting 16 in the diesel, now that is great mileage :thumbrt:

With the hills, winds and the altitude here (2500' at home to 8000' at Mammoth) my V10 with 4:18 gears was getting 10 MPG empty and 5 to 6 with the 'Bird. 8 MPG without winds towing on a flat run at sea level. The 6.4 is averaging 10 MPG loaded consistently in the mountains or at sea level. My figuring, not the numbers the truck shows, it says 9.2 MPG. And I'm towing at 64 mph vs 58 with the V10. I love the dual turbos! :D

So far anyway. I have 2600 miles on the 6.4, 2100 towing. I'm hoping MPG will improve as it runs in.

The DVD that came with my 08 Dodge says that it is the quitest of the diesel trucks. I wonder if they measure when at idle, cruising empty or pulling a load? May be that they can all claim the quietest, it just depends when they measure. It sure is nice to be able to order that Big Mac without shutting down the engine. :D

That "drive thru" test is a good measure, my big block bronco with a wild cam and 3 in exhaust has to be shut off to talk to a passenger let alone order at a drive thru :shock: :shock:

While plowing 11 out of 13 trucks we use are diesels, most are old 7.3 powerstrokes a couple are 6.0 and the older 97 and 96 7.3's have to be shut off just to talk on the radio while the 6.0's you can almost talk window to window, we have no 6.4 yet but they sound quiet driving by.

Not a one! myself and the landscaper with whom I plow are truck loyal, it looks sweet with them all lined up plus when someone breaks something the repairs are easier at 3am if you need to pirate parts :shock:

those trucks are unstopable....until you get a moron behind the wheel then a sherman tank is helpless 8-} 8-} 8-}

The 6.0 04 we use is an animal also, it may be the gears but I think it is better than the 06, feels like it has twice the power :thumbrt:

Strangely enough, last year when one driver sunk a 7.3 3 wheels off a driveway to the bumpers with 1 ton of stone balast the truck that pulled it out was a f250 5.4 gasser :shock: :shock:
