Warranty about to expire

Post by paul7x57mm »

My 2006 f250 warranty is about to expire in about 5k miles. I have 89k miles on the truck. with the 6.0 psd. Ford dealer is offering 4 year 48kmiles for $2,800. I have not had any problems with this engine or transmission to date, and have to make a decision to spend the money or not. I have read many stories about 6.0 psd problems, and thinking about taking the gamble & buy the warranty. My concern is, will something go wrong within the next 48k miles?

I have an 05 F 450 with the 6.0 & 112K miles. My warranty expired in Feb. I wanted to buy an extended plan but, Ford will not sell me one because my truck is "commercial". I have had issues with mine and with some research I am finding out what to do to make it as close to bullet proof as possible. If you plan on keeping it, buy a warranty. I think you could beat the dealer up a little on the price as well. I was quoted 1700 for bumper to bumper 3 year 50 K mile plan till Ford shot me in the foot.

If you plan to keep it, buy the warranty. But do NOT do ANYTHING to the powertrain. Keep it all factory stock. You will get nothing but hassles for doing any slight mod to the engine when it comes time for warranty work.

I just had a turbo vane position solenoid go wacky on my Duramax ('07.5, 69,000 mi) two weeks ago on the road in MN. First day the dealer tells me it's all covered, the next day I have to pay $1000. They tried to find any mod I did to void the warranty to no avail, but still denied the warranty as it had nearly 70,000 miles (my book says it's covered for 100,000). They told me external sensors are not covered, only internally lubricated parts.

In the end, my hometown dealer wrote me a check for $810. I know yours is a Ford, but the same hassles are employed by all 3. I have found ripoffs all around in my short time researching diesel warranties on other sites. One guy gets all 8 glowplugs replaced free under warranty when only one is bad, another has to pay nearly $300 for one that should be covered. BUYER BEWARE! Knowledge pays!!!!!

Good Sam offers an extended warranty on a yearly contract. This beats spending $2800 all at once. I would check them out. . I’ve always had good service with Good Sam and would trust them over any other warranty offered out there. :D

My 5 year warranty expires the first of August. The dealer quoted me $2450 for 3 year/36k with $150 deductable. I'll check with Good Sam.
The dealer just replaced the turbo the end of May. That was the 4th one. I have 75k on mine.

We went to ford .com and purchased the extended manufacturer warranty using a 800 phone # from there site. We were weary of a dealer backed extended warranty I hope we never ever have to use it. We also have the Good Sam road side assistance.

I ended up with the Ford warranty 48 month 48,000 miles. It cost $2,725 the extra 4 years is good for me because I do not drive a lot of miles per year.

Bingo! I am glad I purchased the warrnty. The day I left for Colorado, I blew a turbo clamp. I happened to carry a spare 3 inch standard hose clamp and put it on along the side of the road. I stopped at Ford and they installed a new properclamp and told me that I may have a 299 code for over/ under boost but to keep going and get it checked when I get back from my trip. While climbing the big hill to the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado, I lost power and it started blowing black exhust. I stopped at Summit Ford in Silverthorne and they said the unison ring was shot so they cleaned the turbo and also found worn crank pins with flat spots. The said the turbo needs to be replaced but they did not have one in stock and I couldn't wait. They patched it up so I could could get home.

I have an appointment to get it replaced at my local dealer.
