"rushing wind" noise in 2008 silverado duromax

Post by yellowbird »

has anyone else noticed a noise from the duramax that sounds like a loud "wind rushing" noise ? It only happens occasionally, usually when the engine is cold. I can"t tell if it's the air moving thru the air cleaner or maybe from the transmission. Does not seem to affect anything and usually only lasts for a minute or less. Does anyone have any idea what this is? and should I be concerned about it. The truck has 32,000 miles on it and has made the noise since I got it.

Is it the fan you are hearing? The fan on the 08 will be on in the morning sounds like a roar then goes away within about a 1/2 mile or less. The fixed that on the 2011 and my neighbors thank them. if its a whistle type sound you hear when cold its the turbo for whatever reason it at it loudest then

that could well be the culprit. did you have that problem on your 2008? I stopped at a chevy dealer today and looked at a 2011 silverado 2500hd ls model with everything i want on it. Only $54,000 on the sticker! My 2008 was only $44,000, but it is an LT model. I think I'll drive it at least another year. Poverty sucks!

My '09 FX4 F350 Tow Boss was 50k on the sticker, about 40k after discounts, etc. Friday I was looking at a 2011 King Ranch F450, with the 6.7 diesel, sticker price was 63k. 13k more for the top of the line F450, and two years newer. I don't figure on trading up though, yet. A Tow Boss is F450 running gear, derated, with a F350/250 frame and handles the 'Bird without a problem. If I got one of the 2011 Cardinal's, I could change my mind. Again, not likely. Also I noticed the Tow Boss F350 isn't offered now.

Yes they all did except one year it was totally controlled by the computer. Now on the 2011 its a computer controlled clutch fan and it works much better with no early morning roar. lol The 54k sticker is a little more then i paid for my 2011 3500 HD LTZ I can say one thing they are a pulling machine compared to my 08 which was no slouch except this one stops the trailer much better in fact hardly have to use the brakes with the exhaust brake. :thumbrt:

My O8 does the same thing, I went to a GM truck dealer when it was new and they explained the fan noise. I have also seen this on heavy pulls up mountains and during really hot weather. We traveled to Virgina beach this summer and it was around 100F and the fan was coming on much more often. I purchased my 08 during the problems that GM was having, paid 35k.

Love my truck.

All strange noises diminish as you turn up the volume on the radio. Works in every truck.
