New tow vehicle car carrier on the way

Post by campswithcritters »

Well stopped at 2L Custom Trucks in Poolville Texas today and worked out a deal for them to build Miss Ellie's replacement. It will be a Freightliner Columbia with 500 hp cummins ISX and ultrashift transmission, yes another white Freightliner for us. 2L gets the Freightliner Select Truck (eligible for 2 yr, 500,000 mi warranty) for us and builds the smart car hauler bed and transplants the trailer saver hitch from Miss Ellie. Pretty much turn-key operation! Life is good! :D All done in the budget set by Sharon (Miss Ellie's proceeds). :thumbrt:

Congratulations ---and thank you for keeping the economy going.

I saw your link the other day for the ramps and set up for the Smart Car. That is gong to give you lots of flexibility to get into and out of those tight places you want to explore.

Just got some more numbers on the truck, torque rating is 1850 ft/lbs with cruise on and 1650 ft/lbs with cruise off, called a smart torque engine to avoid unnecessary down shifts when cruising the hills. The birthing process of "The Critter Cruizer" has begun.

Not sure of delivery date Mike, but so happy not to have to search each thing out that willing to wait. I think it will be much sooner as this was a cash deal/swap of Miss Ellie and not a complex build. As it moves along I will update.

That's good Bruce. Just make sure they cut the inner wheel well correct. Don't need any cut tires.

Bed builder (2L Custom) is known as the best and he guarantees 1 inch minimum clearance with suspension dumped or inflated. Not his first rodeo!

That being said I do have a budget so asked for simple and practical and not for show.
