Weird Noise

Post by Traveler II »

We were in strong head winds today and at about 60 mph we had a rattling noise in our cab. It sounded like something was loose, in that it’s not a continuos noise. It sounds like it coming from the upper windshield. When we slow down it goes away. I’ve stopped and checked out the lights and ONSTAR antenna on top, open and closed the sun roof, looked under the hood, but can’t find it. Was wondering if anyone else has run into a noise like this on their Chevy? OK Ford people take it easy on me.

Did you have any ice on your roof? Last weekend we drove down to Santa Fe, had the same experience and found that it was ice vibrating.....only we have a Dodge :d

That might have been, it was real cold when we headed out. But we've made it to the land of warmer weather and it's still making the same weird noise.

You might check the trim around your windshield. Any more its just decorative and is glued on. I had the trim on my Company truck come loose and make noise, but when I would stop it would return to it's normal place and not be noticeable.

I will give the windshield trim a check, that's a place I wouldn't of thought of, thanks.

I have had the same thing as Bill had happen on Martha's Rav4. I also had a Dodge Grand Caravan where when the wind hit the windshield wipers just right they would hum like crazy. Changed to another style of wipers and it never happened again!

I also would check to see if your windshield has come loose. Mine did and I have a the truck in my signature. I had been hearing a sound and didn't know what it was until it got worse and then started to leak. I know that they had a problem with some of the windshields in some of the models.

On my 06 Chevy it is a common problem that the windshield trim makes a popping sound in the wind, worst when it is cold. I ran black electrical tap over the trim (vertical trim by the columns) onto the windshield and the noise goes away. About every 5 or 6 months I replace the tape. Problem solved. The wind get under the trim and it snaps against the windshield causing the noise. Try the tape, no one even knows it's there.

That was my first thought too that it may be the windshield wipers.

I checked the windshield trim, it all looks good. I pushed and pull on it to see if it was loose, again it looked good, but for the last two days I've not heard the noise. My conclusions: We were heading out of the cold to warmer weather and maybe the part making the noise expanded, or my pushing and pulling put the part back into place. Only thing I can say is it's weird.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
