Mike, that brings up a good question, whats the skinny with pluging in the new diesels? Our 2006 Fords seem to start anytime any temp atleast down to -5 deg. I have no experience with any other brand or the newer Fords so is there a need? and when?

Yes there still is a need you should plug the Chevy in -18 degrees or lower the new Chevy has a fast glow plug heat up so most of the time around here even when it was in the low teens as soon as i turned the key on the wait to start light goes out. I also have the fast idle turned on which also stays on even on warmer days if the glow plugs and def heaters are drawing a lot of amps. Use to plug my Dodges in had them on a timer to come on four hours before i left since it took forever to get any heat out of those engines. Plugged in my 08 a few times but have not plugged this one in, in fact dont even know where the plug is. lol

The heater plug is under a beauty cover in the engine compartment on the passenger side. I've never used mine yet. The fast glow is out in less than 4 seconds on a 0* day. Starts up much better than my Ford. Its also nice to have a diesel truck that doesn't smell like one when its running.
Had a chance to just tour the hills area of South Texas (Johnson city, Fredrickburgh, Canyon Lake, Satler) the last couple of days. The mileage jumped up to a respectably 17.3 and found fuel in Johnson City for $3.279/gallon. I made a U-turn to go get in line.
I haven't added any exhauust fluid yet. There is no way to check it. The DIC system will tell you when its low.
The 6.4 Ford doesn't have glow plugs, once the key is in Start you release it and the computer and pizoelectric injectors do the rest. I rented a 6.0 for work once and had to relearn how to get a cold diesel started. I have the block heater kit for the 6.4, but unless it's well below 0 degrees constantly it isn't really needed, I just wanted to ensure that cold starts in low temps (20 degrees and down) wouldn't cause any problems down the road. And to get some heat in the cab fast.

Umm I think you do have glow plugs and the Chevy has the Piezo injectors also
