RECALL of Ford 6.4 diesel

Post by Big Bird »

I have an 09 Ford with a 6.4 diesel. I have had problems with the engine since July 2009. I was scheduled to meet with a Ford representative at the dealer later this week. The dealer called me late yesterday and informed me the power module for the engine is now on recall. They believe all my issues will be covered with the replacement of the module. I apparently controls 90% of the operations of the power plant.

I'll have to stop by the dealer and check. Haven't seen anything in the mail, yet. Mine hasn't given me any problems, but we're headed out on a 1800 mile trip next month. Might schedule the 5k maintenance early and get this taken care of also if it applies. What problems have you had?

If you email me your VIN I can look to see if your truck is on the recall list. I can also send you a copy of the customer information sheet if you want it.

Rob, I checked the Recall and TSB lists on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts Site and saw the TSB for the 6.4 regen flash change, but I haven't had a problem with that and if it works, I don't want to fix it. I don't know how often that site updates the lists though. Guess we'll wait for Russ.

Jeff - It looks like your truck is covered by the recall.

The recall is a Customer Satisfaction Recall number R11B23

The purpose of the recall is to flag potentially harmful conditions before they cause real damage to the engine. They are monitoring:
- Water In Fuel Reduced Power
- Engine Coolant Temperature
- Overfilled Crankcase Detection (Oil level)
- Oil Cooler Efficiency Detection
- Turbocharger Overboost Detection

The new software will provide enhanced warnings for these conditions. So it looks like even if you aren't having problems now it would be worthwhile to have the work done.

I have the Customer Information sheet as a PDF file is anyone wants it I will need to email it to them directly. PM me w/ your email address.

I took my 09 6.4 in for the recall fix. It was my hope to rid the exhaust smell I get during regen. It did not help. I have noticed since the fix that the engine runs and shifts smoother and has better HP during acceleration. The mileage seems a little less and unfortunately the lunge during acceleration has returned. Now if they can get the smell out and get the information center to operate properly.

p.s. I have not received written notice of a recall?
