100,000 mile tires

Post by Chief409 »

There is an article in the April Diesel Power magazine by a gent who changed the rims on his Silverado dually from 16" to 19.5" with LT225/70R19.5 Load Range F tires. Without any clearance problems, or suspension mods. The article starts on pg 140. He also put matching 19.5" rims with 225/70R19.5 tires on his 5er. The rims are also available for Ford and Dodge duallys. I don't know about the trailer, but for the truck it's something to think about.

OK Jeff I'll bite, how do you get 100,000 miles on tires with bigger wheels?

Stiffer commercial truck tires with lower sidewalls, load range F. My tires are load range E in comparison. The diameter is just a bit more then the stock tires and wheels. The points made in the article are "logical", but if you have tall gearing it you might not want the larger diameter tires, also mentioned in the article. I just picked up the magazine when I went grocery shopping Saturday and read the article today after work. It's something to keep an eye on.

Lots of Dodge owners have done that for many years. They do ride quite a bit firmer. There are very good tire/wheel combinations in 17.5 inch size for trailers rated at 4805 lbs each. The 17.5 tires are actually smaller in diameter verses the 16" GY G614's. The wheels are available for both 1/2 studs and 9/16 studs. A lot of manufacturers now offer the 17.5 option. Chris
