5th wheel wiring in new Chevy trucks

Post by JimOMartin »

Hi - I've been taking a peek at the new Chevy trucks. I see there is an option for 5th Wheel wiring in the bed of the new trucks. Here is my question: In the trucks that have this option, there isn't a plug in the bed. Is the wiring routed and a plug just needs to be added? If so, where exactly is it? Thanks for enlighting me.

There is a plug on the bumper but for the bed the wire is rolled up behind the driver side of the cab. You need to install your own plug in the bed where you want it.

Is it long enough to get the receptacle to the back of the bed and I'm assuming sheet metal would have to be cut? Just wondering.

yes its long enough I have mine back under the last stake pocket hole. Just make sure you seal the plug well so water wont get in. We used a hole saw to put mine in.

I put my plug in the middle right by the handle on my hitch. I can plug it in and lock the hitch all from one spot.

Being short I need a step stool, (sorry Don Wilson) a step ladder to reach both.

Mike, I think the wire is still rolled up behind the driver's side of the cab, but the RV dealer installed the plug for the trailer in the bed like we all have. I'm thinking they didn't know about the wire behing the cab and just tied it into the plug wire on the bumper. Need to remember to make a closer check to see just how it is wired.

Yes the wire is behind the cab on top of the fuel tank. The dealer knew and so did I from my 08, Olbird and I wired it ourself did not have a dealer do it. If you look on the cap of the one that is in the bumper it tells you what wire goes where.
